  Behaviorism Tutorial - Part 1 - Section 4
A variety of behaviorism that departs from the ones described in earlier sections of this tutorial, despite some occasional superficial similarities in terminology, is "behavior analysis." Behavior analysis is most closely associated with the work of B. Skinner.
The experimental analysis of behavior is the systematic context for research in psychology.
The conceptual analysis of behavior is the philosophical, theoretical examination of the subject matter and methods of behavior analysis, as well as other forms of psychology.

Its practitioners, or behavior analysts, are often known by such other names as "operant conditioners" and "Skinnerians." Behavior analysis has three components: (a) the experimental analysis of behavior, (b) the applied analysis of behavior, and (c) the conceptual analysis of behavior.
In all cases, the experimental analysis of behavior is concerned with basic, fundamental processes (e.g., reinforcement, punishment, avoidance, escape, discrimination, generalization, acquisition, extinction) influencing the behavior of individual organisms.
The "philosophy of science" underlying the conceptual analysis of behavior is called "radical behaviorism." The term radical is used to signify the thoroughgoing analysis of all forms of activity according to behavioral principles.

Its practitioners, or behavior analysts, are often known by such other names as "operant conditioners" or "Skinnerians." Behavior analysis has four domains: (a) the experimental analysis of behavior, (b) applied behavior analysis, (c) the delivery of behavior analytic professional services, and (d) radical behaviorism.
The experimental analysis of behavior is the systematic context for basic research in psychology.
Hence, radical behaviorism is particularly concerned with verbal behavior, the relation between verbal behavior and knowledge, and the nature of the intellectual activity that underlies science.

Defining the Field of Behavior Analysis
Behavior Analysis: The design, implementation, and evaluation of systematic environmental modifications for the purpose of producing socially significant improvements in and understanding of human behavior based on the principles of behavior identified through the experimental analysis of behavior.
Behavior Analysis: Means the design, implementation, and evaluation of instructional and environmental modifications to produce socially significant improvements in human behavior through skill acquisition and the reduction of problematic behavior.
Applied behavior analysis is a well-developed discipline among the helping professions, with a mature body of scientific knowledge, established standards for evidence-based practice, distinct methods of service, recognized experience and educational requirements for practice, and identified sources of requisite education in universities.

 Behavior Analytic Theories in Psychology
Behavior analysis is properly part of evolutionary biology, because only evolutionary theory can explain the origins of behavior and because behavior analysis follows the same mode of explanation as evolutionary theory.
Behaviorism is generally characterized as the viewpoint holding that the appropriate subject matter for psychology is behavior and the appropriate methods for psychology are those of the natural sciences.
Discusses the differences between experimental psychology, which is characterized as the study of variance among treatments, and correlational psychology, which is characterized as the study of variance among organisms.

Experimental analysis of behavior - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The experimental analysis of behavior is the name given to the approach to experimental psychology founded by B.
As its name suggests, its foundational principle was the rejection of theoretical analysis, in particular the kinds of learning theory that had grown up in the comparative psychology of the 1920-1950 period, in favor of a more direct approach.
Behavior consists of a response to an antecedent stimulus.

Ethological and Experimental Approaches to Behavior Analysis: Implications for Ecotoxicology
Behavioral abnormalities have been identified using similar observational techniques among female rodents and their young exposed to lithium (22), and lead (23,24), as well as in analogous field studies involving parental behavior in birds (9).
Traditional approaches to the experimental analysis of behavior have not been well-suited for laboratory studies on foraging: the amount of a standard food is fixed, and testing takes place in an open economy with supplementary food available in the home cage after the test session.
Experimental approaches distill fundamental features of the environment in a relatively artificial setting to precisely detail the variables responsible for behavior; at the same time, they may raise nagging questions regarding the generality of findings to other environments.

The Division for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, among the APA divisions that advance psychology as a natural science, is perhaps unique in its emphasis on behavior as a subject matter in its own right.
This analysis is pursued in three relatively distinct ways: In the experimental analysis of behavior per se, which undertakes research on basic behavioral processes in a temporal and biological context.
The Experimental Analysis of Human Behavior Special Interest Group (EAHB-SIG) is chartered by the Association for Behavior Analysis, an organization of more than 2,000 individuals who apply Behavior Analysis to a variety of conceptual, applied, and basic issues or for whom the study of Behavior Analysis as a discipline is a compelling scholarly pursuit.

Behaviorism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Radical: Skinnerian behaviorism; is considered radical since it expands behavioral principles to processes within the organism; in contrast to methodological behaviorism; not mechanistic or reductionist; hypothetical (mentalistic) internal states are not considered causes of behavior, phenomena must be observable at least to the individual experiencing them.
Skinner, who carried out experimental work mainly in comparative psychology from the 1930s to the 1950s, but remained behaviorism's best known theorist and exponent virtually until his death in 1990, developed a distinct kind of behaviorist philosophy, which came to be called radical behaviorism.
Behaviorism is both a psychological movement and a philosophy of mind.

Methodology in the Experimental Analysis of Behavior
What operant conditioning experimentation is all about is the experimenter controls the conditions that confront the organism, records the resulting behavior, and compares this behavior to the behavior of organisms under other conditions, or this same organism before these conditioning were in effect.
The experimenter is looking for similarities and differences that might lead to more general principles summarizing the lawful relationship between the environment and behavior.
Behaviorism is firmly within the context of the development of science, in that most sciences have progressed when they stayed within the context of observable events, and tried to make testable laws based solely on the relationships between observable events.

 Great Ideas in Personality--Behaviorism
The experimental analysis of behavior, and the philosophical underpinnings of this science, dominated psychology for much of the 20th century, with its main competitor being the more clinically oriented Psychoanalysis.
Behavioral research leads to the discovery of laws, some of which cover more than behavior simply conceived.
Behavior shows flexibility because many different kinds of responses may be reinforced, and thus an organism may possess a large repertoire of responses.

Experimental Analysis of Naming Behavior Cannot Explain Naming Capacity   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
The experimental analysis of naming behavior begs this question entirely, simply taking it for granted that the connection is somehow successfully accomplished.
To realize that there is nothing in the analysis of associative directionality that can explain this kind of input equivalence, we must first stop thinking about tasks like pairing pictures of cars and spoken and written names of cars in the laboratory, because those are overlearned categories we already have.
An explanation like this is impossible from just the experimental analysis of behavior: one must also hypothesize and then analyze the internal structures and processes that generate the capacity to exhibit the behavior (Harnad 1982, 1984).

 ABA About Behavior Analysis
Behavior Analysis is a science that studies the behavior of human and non-human organisms.
This is largely a laboratory science that studies the behavior of a variety of species, including rats, pigeons, monkeys, and humans in an attempt to understand how behavior is influenced by environmental events.
This branch of the science is called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and this large and diverse literature has spawned an effective technology for modifying behavior under widely varying conditions.
