Explorer 6 (1959) took the first photograph of Earth from space and Explorer 8 (1960) made confirmation of the existence of a helium layer in the upper atmosphere.
Explorer 35, also known as IMP E, was launched in July 1967, and was the last Explorer of the decade.
The Explorer 57 mission (IUE-A) was launched in Jan. 1978 and successfully obtained high-resolution data on stars and planets in the UV region of the spectrum.

NASA's Solar System Exploration: Missions: By Year: 1960 - 1969: Explorer (Moon)
Explorer spacecraft have studied the Sun, Moon, Earth and the environment of our solar system.
The first in the series - Explorer 1 - was America's first satellite, a response to Russia's Sputnik 1 launch in 1957.
Three Explorers were sent to study the Moon.

 Explorer Spacecraft Series
This was so because even the early Explorers performed a large variety of scientific missions ranging from energy particle exploration through atmospheric and ionospheric studies to investigations of micrometeroids, air density, radio astronomy, geodesy, and gamma ray astronomy--not to mention interplanetary and solar monitoring.
The one constant amidst this diversity was that the early "Explorers" were smaller, simpler, and less costly than the orbiting observatories also used in scientific exploration of physical and astronomical phenomena.
The listing at the end of this narrative shows the satellites that clearly belong in the "Explorer" series because they were relatively small and uncomplicated, performed a scientific mission, and -- until quite recently -- appeared in satellite situation reports and post-launch reports under the name "Explorer," accompanied by a mission number.

The Explorer 31, Direct Measurement Explorer, was launched with a Canadian Alouette II on November 28, 1965, on a Thor-Agena rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
It was launched on July 19, 1967, with the primary objectives of investigation of interplanetary plasma and the interplanetary magnetic field out to and at the lunar distance, in either a captured lunar orbit or a geocentric orbit of the earth.

The Explorer VIII satellite primary objective was to obtain measurements of the electron density, the electron temperature, the ion concentration, the ion mass, the micrometeorite distribution, and the micrometeorite mass in the ionosphere.

The Explorer 33 and 35 spacecraft, also referred to as Anchored IMP (AIMP) 1 and 2, were launched in 1966 and 1967 towards lunar-centric orbits.
Explorer 35 achieved a 5 Rm lunar orbit, but Explorer 33 went into a moderately eccentric, geocentric orbit of about 15 day period, 70 Earth radii apogee for most of its life.
Intermittent Explorer 33 data were acquired up to 5/31/71; Explorer 35 coverage declined during the last two years of its principal period.

Kepler's laws are valid not only for planets orbiting the sun but for any two objects orbiting each other under the influence of their mutual gravitational attraction.
For any two bodies orbiting each other Newton generalized this law to read: EMBED Equation where m and M are the two masses, P is the period of the orbit, G is the universal gravitational constant, and a is the semi-major axis.
Procedure In July 1967 NASA launched the Explorer 35 spacecraft to study the solar wind and solar x-ray emission.
