Pacific Plate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pacific Plate is an oceanic tectonic plate beneath the Pacific Ocean.
To the north the easterly side is a divergent boundary with the Explorer Plate, the Juan de Fuca Plate and the Gorda Plate forming respectively the Explorer Ridge, the Juan de Fuca Ridge and the Gorda Ridge.
The westerly side is a convergent boundary subducting under the Eurasian Plate to the north and the Philippine Plate in the middle forming the Mariana Trench.

Juan de Fuca Plate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is bounded on the south by the Mendocino fault zone and along the west by the Pacific Plate.
The central piece retains the Juan de Fuca name, whereas the southern piece is known as the Gorda Plate and the northern piece is known as the Explorer Plate.
Along with the Nazca Plate and Cocos Plate, the Juan de Fuca Plate is one of the last remains of the Farallon Plate.

Explorer-I, officially known as Satellite 1958 Alpha, was the first United States earth satellite and was sent aloft as part of the United States program for the International Geophysical Year 1957-1958.
The satellite instrumentation of Explorer-I was designed and built by Dr. James Van Allen of the State University of Iowa.
Explorer-I was placed in an orbit with a perigee of 224 miles and an apogee of 1,575 miles having a period of 114.9 minutes.

The northern boundary with the North American plate is a transform or strike-slip boundary which runs from the border area of Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras in Central America, eastward through the Cayman trough on south of the southeast coast of Cuba, and just north of Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
The Puerto Rico trench is at a complex transition from the subduction boundary to the south and the transform boundary to the west.
The Caribbean Plate is thicker and lay higher than the rest of the Pacific Ocean floor, and instead overrode the Atlantic Ocean floor, moving eastward relative to North America and South America, and, with the formation of the Isthmus of Panama 2–3 million years ago, ultimately losing its connection to the Pacific.

List of tectonic plates - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tectonic plates are are pieces of the Earth's crust and uppermost mantle, together referred to as the lithosphere.
The plates are around 100 km (60 miles) thick and consist of two principal types of material: oceanic crust (also called sima from silicon and magnesium) and continental crust (sial from silicon and aluminium).
The surface of the Earth consists of 14 major plates and 38 minor ones, for a total of 52 plates.

 Earth Floor: Plate Tectonics
The plates are all moving in different directions and at different speeds (from 2 cm to 10 cm per year--about the speed at which your fingernails grow) in relationship to each other.
The plates are moving around like cars in a demolition derby, which means they sometimes crash together, pull apart, or sideswipe each other.
The place where the two plates meet is called a plate boundary.

Pacific Northwest tectonic plates are moving
Newport, Ore. — The three major tectonic plates off the Pacific Northwest coast are undergoing a gradual shift, and the area in which they converge — popularly known as the "Triple Junction" — appears to be migrating in a southeasterly direction.
The Triple Junction is where the Juan de Fuca plate, the North American plate and the Pacific plate converge in an area off the Pacific Northwest coast from Oregon to Vancouver Island.
The plate, about 200 kilometers in length, is subducting beneath the North American plate at the rate of about 4.3 centimeters a year.

CVO Website - Juan de Fuca Volcanics
As the denser plate of oceanic crust is forced deep into the Earth's interior beneath the continental plate, a process known as subduction, it encounters high temperatures and pressures that partially melt solid rock.
The Explorer Plate separated from the Juan de Fuca approximately 4 million years ago and is apparently no longer being subducted (Hyndman, et.al., 1979); the Gorda split away between 18 and 5 million years ago (Riddihough, 1984).
Plate motions in the Pacific Northwest result in shallow earthquakes widely distributed over Washington and deep earthquakes in the western parts of Washington and Oregon.

 Shock Mount Skid Plate
Jack Lobdell felt that the stock Explorer leaf spring mounts weren't up to the task of serious off-roading.
Jack came up with a design for a shock mount skid plate, the plate provides a flat surface for rocks to slide over and also has angled approach and departure surfaces.
The plate is then bent to fit around the stock spring mount and finally it is MIG welded in place along all of the seams.

Low-Frequency Tremor and Slow Slip in Subduction Zones I - Seismology [S]
The northern extent of tremor activity appears to coincide with the northern edge of the Explorer plate and most of the strong tremor sequences seem to initiate here and migrate to the southeast at a rate of about 10 km per day.
This migration does not appear to be impeded by the presence of the Nootka Fault Zone (NFZ), the boundary between the Explorer and Juan de Fuca plates.
The total amount of tremor activity in northern and southern Vancouver Island appears to be the same although the plate convergence rate of the Explorer Plate with North America is only 2 cm/yr, approximately half of the Juan de Fuca rate.

CONTINENTAL DRIFT - Paleontology and Geology Glossary
The plates are made of rock and are from 80 to 400 miles (50 to 250 km) thick.
Over long periods of time, the plates also change in size as their margins are added to, crushed together, or pushed back into the Earth's mantle.
At the boundaries of the plates, various deformations occur as the plates interact; they separate from one another (seafloor spreading), collide (forming mountain ranges), slip past one another (subduction zones, in which plates undergo destruction and remelting), and slip laterally.

The largest tires that will fit on the these Explorers without rubbing are 30x9.50's Some people have been able to fit 31x10.50's, but this really depends on manufacturing tolerances.
As yet, no one has done a suspension lift and many of the companies who have tried have canceled the project...the way the rig is made with all-wheel drive, the type of t-case, etc., the market is too small for the aftermarket to try to make lift kits.
At this time adjusting the torsion bars for a slight lift, adding a leaf to the rear spring pack and a good body lift are the only ways to get larger tires under the late model Explorers.

These are the largest and best-recorded earthquakes to date in the vicinity of northern Vancouver Island and the adjacent coast margin.
A detailed study of these earthquakes was undertaken to examine the contemporary tectonics of this region, specifically the poorly understood interaction between the Explorer plate and the North American plate at the northern end of the Cascadia subduction zone.
The northeast-directed pressure axes for these earthquakes suggests coupling across the Explorer-North America segment of the Cascadia subduction zone, consistent with contemporary convergence of the Explorer Plate with the North American plate in a northeast-southwest direction.
