Topic: Export Import Bank

  Export-Import Bank
More and more, importing countries are demanding that exporters shift part of their production to the purchasing nation in order to win the sale.
Exports of mining, petroleum, and infrastructure equipment may help multinational corporations and developed countries access cheaper raw materials, with few benefits for the residents of developing countries.
According to a GAO study of Eximbank dual use export loans and guarantees between 1995-97, all nine loans given to Indonesia, Venezuela, and Brazil were to be used to purchase equipment for their militaries, including aircraft, trucks, and radio systems.

 THE EXPORT-IMPORT BANK
The expert export financiers at the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im Bank) of the United States have solutions to these and many more challenges with which that small business are confronted when exporting.
Another recurring challenge in export financing is a lender’s reluctance to finance the pre-export working capital cycle of a company’s business.
It is only offered to firms just beginning to export or to those with average annual export credit sales of less than $3 million for the past two years.

 The Export-Import Bank (Testimony)
The Export-Import Bank's main functions of providing loan guarantees, insurance, and direct loans that benefit U.S. exporters are typically justified by Ex-Im Bank's mission of providing that support when there are instances of "market failure"--i.e., when the private market does not provide those services on its own--or subsidized export finance that benefits foreign competitors.
It is unfortunate that foreign governments subsidize their exports, but even under those conditions, the Ex-Im Bank still distorts the U.S. economy by pulling resources out of it to benefit its favored corporations.
Interest in exporting is modest; the American market has not been fully exploited in most instances." The business group went on to consider that "The counter-argument is future sales and the growth of markets around the world.

 Rethinking the Export-Import Bank
The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) was created in 1934 as an independent federal agency operating under a renewable congressional charter.
Subsidized export credit does not noticeably affect the overall level of trade, does not “improve” the U.S. trade balance, and has no discernable net impact on the number of jobs in the U.S. economy.
The Bank provides financing to countries that do not have trouble obtaining credit and, in many cases, merely displaces private investment by funding ventures that would otherwise have taken place.

My proposal to reform the Export-Import Bank is aimed at eliminating this abuse of federal support by corporations.” Sanders, Ranking Member of the congressional subcommittee with jurisdiction over the Ex-Im Bank, successfully convinced the chair to incorporate the Sanders proposal, which also includes support for small business, into the committee’s legislative bill.
The goal of the Export-Import Bank should be to support companies who are interested in increasing decent paying American jobs, not cutting them back.
If, on the other hand, the necessary reforms can be implemented to the Export-Import Bank to spur the increase of decent paying jobs in the U.S., I am prepared to support your proposal to increase the Bank’s portfolio ceiling and your proposal on Tied Aid.

Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand), under the Bilateral Payment Arrangement (BPA) Program, signed an agreement to provide “Revolving Trade Financing Facility” to Russia through the Russian government’s appointed bank, Vneshtorgbank, in a bid to increase the trade volume between the two countries.
However, in the meantime, the volume of Thai import from Russia is much higher than export, resulting in an unbalanced trade of export and import between the two countries.
Sataporn added that by adopting such system for international trade transaction to boost Thai exports to various countries, Thailand’s export volume will be larger while the competitiveness of Thai exporters will be strengthened.
