 Exquisite Corpse
From the beginning, Exquisite Corpse was conceived as a newspaper, to be read for the news within, not for the glamorous bios of recent conquerors of the Amy Lowell Traveling Fellowship plus glam shot.
The Corpse, like Don Quijote, or perhaps Pantagruel, was also dedicated to the blurring of genres, demolishing distinctions between poetry and prose, lyric and reportage, essay and manifesto.
The Corpse in Louisiana (1984-1998) had two distinct periods: the first (1984-1990) was more or less an extension of the Baltimore Corpse, tropicalized by the environs; the second (1990-1998) was the era of the Body Bag.

I'm not either, but I'm willing to admit that reading Exquisite Corpse has warped my mind slightly, and I knew exactly what I was letting myself in for when I opened it.
'Eqxuisite Corpse' is quite disturbingly graphic in its' depictions of sex and violence - this is partly to be expected given the subject matter.
This is not to deny, however, that I found 'Exquisite Corpse' a more powerful and memorable book than its two predecessors simply due to its subject matter and the horrifying way it concludes, as well as Brite's always superb eye for description and detail.

The History of the EXQUISITE CORPSE
One of the basic tenants of Surrealism was the notion that creativity /genius could be a shared experience.
In it was the proclamation, "Surrealism is not a new or easier means of expression, nor is it a metaphysic of poetry; it is a means toward the total liberation of the mind and of everything that resembles it…".
Developed in 1925, the Exquisite Corpse was designed for group participation and relied on the chance encounter as a disruption of rationality and a product of the shared, oceanic unconscious in which the Surrealists believed.

Larry Parkes (Blooming Prairie, MN) and David Walters (Newbury Park, CA) and I have been creating digital works of art based on the surrealist game of the 1920's and 30's called "Exquisite Corpse," in which an artist creates a drawing on the top section of a sheet of paper folded in thirds.
He or she then extends a few lines down into the middle section before folding the top section back and passing it to the next artist, who does the same before passing it to the third artist.
