Topic: Extension organ

  The Institute for Neural Cryobiology
To vitrify organs for later transplantation, about half of the water in the organs must be replaced with chemical agents, or "biological antifreeze agents." Scientifically, these chemicals are known as cryoprotective agents (CPAs) or cryoprotectants.
The aggregate need for these nonvital organs may greatly exceed that for vital organs, and banking is likely to be a necessity to overcome the otherwise overwhelming logistic difficulties of matching donation with transplantation.
In particular, by showing that another seemingly impossible medical problem can be solved, successful organ cryopreservation will encourage medical researchers to stretch their minds and their ambitions in pursuit of additional "impossible" goals, with benefits to patients in general and to life extension enthusiasts in particular that can scarcely be foretold.

ePrintsUQ - Dynamics Of Internode And Stem Elongation In Three Cultivars Of Maize
Data for phytomer initiation and organ extension and appearance were related to thermal time calculated from the temperature in the growing zone.
Extension of internodes was analysed using a four stage framework:- an initial exponential stage, transition to rapid extension, rapid (linear) extension and transition to final length.
The commencement of rapid extension of the peduncle coincided with a transient reduction in the rates of extension of vegetative internodes.

 THE FUTURE OF AUSTRALIAN ORGANBUILDING
However, on a positive note, we must not neglect the fact that this eclectic organ and the Organ Reform Movement sought the return of the most musical connection between the finger and the pipe, that is the mechanical or tracker action.
Organs need to be built to comply with their ultimate role as liturgical instruments, that is to assist in worship.
As well as initiating the development of the electronic organ, the advent of electricity also saw the rise of the ‘extension organ’ which resulted in an instrument with reduced tonal quality and, in most cases, lower standards of craftsmanship.

The Organs of the Mother Church - Boston
Since the organ in the Extension of The Mother Church was in similar need, it was decided to replace both instruments.
This instrument is also considered a masterpiece of organ building, and an excellent example of what a termed the "eclectic" organ building and voicing, and is suited to the performance of organ literature from all periods, pre-Baroque to the present.
Except for the Solo, the organ is installed across the front of the auditorium in one large loft approximately seventy-five feet wide, ten feet deep, and sixty feet high.

 UnitOrgan
The unit, or extension, organ made its first appearance in Australia some 84 years ago and subsequently had a major impact upon indigenous organbuilding, particularly in the two-decade period from 1950 to 1970.
The development of the unit or extension organ was generally tied to the development of electro-pneumatic actions in organbuilding, although it should be stated that Hill and Son had been able in the late 19th century to produce an extended pedal Bass Flute 8ft on mechanical action.
The first clear example of an extension organ to appear in Australia was the 'unit orchestra' built in 1917 by the American firm of Wurlitzer for the Rose Bay, N.S.W. residence of the firm's agent W.A. Crowle.

 MIDI for Organists
Organs of this sort may be advertised as having a "small cable connection" between console and pipes, or something similar.
Were the instrument the extension organ described above, where the time to switch on or off a single note on two coupled manuals was 16 milliseconds instead of 6, the situation would be entirely hopeless.
Synthesisers and electronic organs generally have an upper limit, and not long ago it was common to find electronic organs which could not cope with more than eight notes in a chord, for example.

In 2001, in an attempt to integrate the different musical styles, the console of the Walker organ was moved to the front of the Church, along with an adjustment of the adjacent pews to enable accommodation of singers, guitarists, and other instrumentalists.
A range of musical styles is now led by a varied ensemble, extending on major feasts to organ, guitars, oboe, violin, digital piano and singers, all in close proximity to the congregation.

Additional accommodation consisting of a session room, ladies’ and gents’ cloakrooms and a vestry was to be provided at the back of the church with a corridor to connect the church to the existing hall.

The memorial stone of the extended church was laid by Mr William Brown of Renfrew on the 9th June 1904 and the formal re-opening of the church took place on Saturday 5th November of the same year when Mr George Hutchison, the only son of Trinity's first minister, performed the ceremony.

Quentin Maclean on the organ in the Regal Cinema; and the many organists (both church and cinema organists) who were present on that occasion were not slow to mark their appreciation of a performance which was faultless both technically and artistically.
Cinema organ playing is a new thing, which, owing to various reasons, such as the rapid growth of the industry, the shortage of organists (in the early days-- not now), unscrupulous commercial exploitation, and vitiated public taste, has had a doubtful start.
Cinema Organs’, I think it is this: the church organ is generally (and it should be) the nobler instrument in that it is used to inspire the soul in the worship of God (by far the greatest use to which any instrument can be put).
