Restoration Quarterly (Rethinking Jesus on Divorce)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Jesus himself is crying out, "Look for the heart of God!" He is not attempting to draw distinctions between divorce and remarriage to determine which is worse or to offer new laws as replacements for Deuteronomy.
With the interspersion of Jesus' fate (viz., to suffer, be killed, and be raised: 16:21-23; 17:22-23; 20:17-19) into the demands or values of the kingdom of heaven, the ultimate demand is shown: a willingness on the part of disciples to follow the steps of Jesus even to death.
Jesus is not for Matthew a legislator or rule maker in any usual sense, and why the evangelist has Jesus put so much emphasis upon love of God and love of neighbour, things which are unquantifiable.

 Interpretation of the Bible
It restricts itself to a search for the meaning of the biblical text within the historical circumstances that gave rise to it and is not concerned with other possibilities of meaning which have been revealed at later stages of the biblical revelation and history of the church.
Biblical studies can only draw profit from research of this kind, all the more so since the philosophy of hermeneutics for its own part stresses the necessary distance between a work and its author as well as between a work and its readers.
Biblical hermeneutics, for all that it is a part of the general hermeneutics applying to every literary and historical text, constitutes at the same time a unique instance of general hermeneutics.

Biblical Seminary - Belong - Faculty Book Reviews
Block’s discussion of the biblical text is lucid and thorough, including observations on such things as rhetorical structure, points of grammar and syntax, questions concerning the best English rendering of numerous Hebrew terms and expressions, as well as the historical and theological significance of this period in the early history of Israel.
Yet he sees (correctly, I believe) that the biblical teaching on the intermediate state (between death and resurrection) is not consistent with the monistic views that are quite popular in Christian academic circles.
He also investigates the NT material on the brothers of Jesus, the status of Mary in the Synoptics, (especially in Luke-Acts), so-called marian symbolism in Luke, Mary in the Gospel of John, and Mary in Revelation 12.

Biblical "Science"--The question of whether or not the Bible is scientifically valid has been debated for hundreds of years by critics and supporters alike.
Jesus, the False Messiah--As stated in prior issues of BE, Jesus often made statements and committed acts which invalidate any claims he made to the Messiahship.
The "Commentary" in Issue #9 stated, "Many individuals have died because they put their trust in the biblical injunction to pray (And the prayer of faith shall save the sick-James 5:13-15)." It's interesting to note that CNN news reported this was precisely the verse used by the child's father to justify his position.

This James, says Josephus, was "the brother of Jesus the so-called Christ."{14} F.F. Bruce points out how this agrees with Paul's description of James in Galatians 1:19 as "the Lord's brother."{15} And Edwin Yamauchi informs us that "few scholars have questioned" that Josephus actually penned this passage.
For instance, the charge of sorcery is similar to the Pharisees' accusation that Jesus cast out demons "by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons."{25} But notice this: such a charge actually tends to confirm the New Testament claim that Jesus performed miraculous feats.

Essential to the Roman Catholic faith is Holy Communion, the celebration of Jesus Christ, his body and blood, soul and divinity, under the appearance of the Eucharistic bread and wine.
At the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, Jesus took bread and said, "This is my body, take and eat it." Then he took the wine and said, "Take and drink this [wine] which is the sign of the new and everlasting covenant," the bond created by Jesus between God and people (Dietzen, 1997, p.
