Extreme environment clothing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Extreme environment clothing normally refers to clothing for arctic or mountainous areas on land, although it is sometimes used for survival suits worn by mariners.
The usual clothing is a parka and mittens, gaiters and booties.
Dry suits are very similar to arctic clothing, except with a waterproof shell, and closed-cell flexible plastic foam for insulation and flotation.

Wearing layered clothing is especially important for soldiers whose duties require them to frequently move in and out of heated shelters, or to periodically undertake vigorous physical activity.
Proper clothing will be made of material that water vapor can pass through, and will allow the wearer to unzip and open the clothing periodically to increase ventilation.
Extra clothing and blankets should be available for use by patients during treatment and evacuation, especially when their clothing has become torn or soaked in blood.

Clothing in the Self-System of Adolescents:
Clothing is thus a medium by which the self is established and validated through an interactive two-way process involving purposeful presentation of the self and the perception of an actual or imagined response to the self by others.
Clothing satisfaction was measured by constructing an index based on two measures: (a) affective evaluation of the clothing domain and (b) the self-anchoring ladder of satisfaction with clothing.
Adolescents' satisfaction with clothing appears from this study to be dependent on two outcomes related to incorporating clothing with the self-that is, the extent to which clothing gives them a sense of personal competence and their ability to achieve the image of who they are through their clothing.

Marines Ban Polyester Clothing In Iraq   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The ban on popular clothing from companies like Under Armour, CoolMax and Nike comes in the wake of concerns that a substantial burn risk is associated with wearing clothing made with these synthetic materials.
For these reasons, Marines have been limited to wearing clothing made with these materials only while on the relatively safe forward operating bases and camps where encounters with fires and explosions are relatively low.
When working in a low risk environment where exposure to flames or intense heat is minimal the high performance apparel can be an optimal option for staying cool in the Iraq heat.

For most of us, that means we're comfortable working in an environment of about 73 degrees (with 45 percent humidity), but that ideal could drop as low as 55 degrees if your work is extremely labor intensive.
This is the most serious health problem caused by working in hot environments, and early recognition and treatment of it is critical.
Wear loose-fitting clothing, take frequent breaks in a cool rest area, open windows and install fans, and get plenty of fluids (a cup of water every 20 minutes of so under extremely hot conditions).

Soldiers regularly stationed in cold-weather regions are usually issued the Extended Cold-Weather Clothing System (ECWCS) which protects from +40°F to -60°F. ECWCS consists of 5 layers: polypropylene underwear, a polyester fiberpile shirt and bib overalls, polyester coat liner and nylon/cotton field pants, nylon/GORE-TEX ® laminate parka and trousers, and white nylon/cotton overgarments (parka and trousers).
Because cold-weather clothing is heavy and cumbersome, it greatly increases the energy required for physical activity.

During exposure to a cold environment, the normal body temperature is maintained by increasing heat production and/or reducing the rate of heat loss (heat conservation).
Heat conservation is accomplished behaviorally by adding clothing or physiologically by constricting the vessels that carry blood to the skin and to regions of the body such as the ears, feet, and hand.
Clothing should be selected for comfort during the activity, after metabolic heat production has reached a steady-state.

(( Natural Fiber Clothing )) Articles
The primary needs of skin include; hydration, protection from too much sunlight, protection from extremes in temperature, and the capacity to ‘breathe’ naturally by means of exchange of temperature with the environment and by releasing surface moisture, or perspiration.
Polyesters, acetates, latex, nylon and blends of these and other artificial fibers create an unnatural condensation of moisture on the inside surface of the fabric, and therefore on the surface of the skin, which is why we feel ‘sweaty’ sometimes when we wear them.
Wearing clothing from cotton, organic cotton, hemp, linen/flax, silk, ramie, wool, rayon, tencel and/or blends of these fibers, is therefore a much more healthy and more comfortable choice (which may sometimes require proper layering in extreme weather conditions.)
