Family Calls An Arrest In Bombing A Mistake - New York Times
Eyad Ismail's college notebooks are still stacked on his desk in his family's house, on a hill high above the Roman ruins sprawling next to this sun-baked market town.
Ismail's family is in turmoil, still trying to make sense of his sudden arrest and extradition to the United States on suspicion of driving a van laden with explosives into the garage under the World Trade Center.
Ismail said her brother had never mentioned the World Trade Center bombing or the name of Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, the man the prosecutors say was the mastermind of the plot.

The Americans have always pursued wrongdoers with great zeal and perseverance, as would be evident of the pursuit of Eyad Ismail who was involved in the botched bombing of the WTC in 1993.
Ismail was sentenced to 240 years of imprisonment in 1998 and was also ordered to pay $ 240 million as compensation.

Security forces remain in hot pursuit of several individuals who are alleged to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda, and who reportedly entered the country illegally with the aim of launching a spate of attacks on the Red Sea resorts of Sharm El-Sheikh and Dahab.
Ismail said, "it is obvious that the security apparatus is widening its scope of suspicion in an attempt to substantiate the delusion of the existence of Al-Qaeda cells."
Several of the detainees' families have filed complaints at police stations accusing security forces of kidnapping their sons and relatives, either from their homes or while they were walking down the street.

U.S. federal prosecutors suppressed critical evidence in trial of 1993 World Trade Center bombers
According to U.S. intelligence sources, the FBI and Justice Department sat on volumes of translations of Arabic telephone intercepts gathered before the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center from U.S.- and Sudan-based Muslim militants who once worked for U.S. intelligence in the mujaheddin war against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan.
The critical intelligence, which demonstrated a link between the CIA and "Afghan Arab" muhajeddin forces, including those loyal to Osama bin Laden, was never introduced into the trial of the Brooklyn- and Jersey City-based based cell that included the blind Egyptian cleric Shaikh Omar Abdul Rahman, Ramzi Yousef, and Eyad Ismail..
Some of the surveillance intelligence came from decoded diplomatic communications between the Sudanese Mission to the United Nations and Khartoum, Sudan, where Osama Bin Laden then resided.
