Encyclopedia :: encyclopedia : Red-eye flight   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
The term "red-eye flight" derives from the sleepiness symptoms of having red eyes; most passengers on these flights will probably take a nap during the late night flight.
In the 1930s and 1940s, red-eye flights were unthinkable, as most airports did not have the equipment necessary to work at night.
On the other hand, there are still many airports that do not function after certain hours, so red-eye flights can take off only from those airports that are operational after midnight.

Catch a Glimpse of Vesta: Only Asteroid Visible to the Unaided Eye
With the unaided eye, you will be able to view an asteroid called Vesta.
Ironically, the path that Vesta is currently taking through the constellation Virgo is very close to the path it was traveling 196 years ago when it was first discovered.
It is interesting to note that although Vesta is not the largest or closest asteroid (and it is, in fact, dwarfed by Ceres 960km diameter,) it is the only one which can be spotted with the naked eye.
