EYE OF THE STORM - LINER NOTES [ @ The MARK HEARD Tribute Project ]
The - Eye of the Storm - is that representative of this recess?
There is a little more hope on this album, a little more of the assurance based on the love of God that, even though we live in a fallen world, there is hope, and the beauty of the original creation can be found by those who look.
Whereas Victims of the Age was meant as an expose of the terror of living in a fallen universe, Eye of the Storm is meant to point out that there is an eye to the storm.

With this new album, we will be trying to get away from the New Jersey scene as much as possible, branching out into areas that are more susceptive to our style of music.
Obviously the budget for the new album was about ten times greater than the previous, but each band member agreed and did what they had to do to cover their end, even if it meant taking on weekend jobs or whatever.
Paul: As Craig said earlier, much of the album is based on the experiences my mother went through both physically and emotionally and my relationship with other family members and people around me. It's about those feelings we all had during those difficult times.

Roger Hodgson : In the Eye of The Storm - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Roger Hodgson : In the Eye of The Storm
Hodgson wrote, sang, arranged, and produced In the Eye of the Storm, but the real kicker is the fact that he played every instrument himself, with a few exceptions such as drums and fretless bass guitar on a few cuts.
As a result, In the Eye of the Storm is easily the best synthesis of pop and progressive rock since, well, prime Supertramp.

Mark Heard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Heard released five albums for the label; 1981's Stop the Dominoes, 1982's Victims of the Age; 1983's Eye of the Storm; 1984's Ashes and Light; and 1985's Mosaics.
From that point on, his albums were largely made at home, with just a handful of friends and relatives lending a hand.
Not only had he just released three albums that many hailed as his best work to date, but he had also just been included on the Legacy II sampler from Windham Hill's High Street label.

 Eye of the Storm Insert
Following is the text of the album insert from Mark Heard's 1982 acoustic release, _Eye of the Storm_.
This acoustic album serves as a pause for me, an interlude, a recess outside my usual routine both stylistically and lyrically.
Since this album is stylistically more accessible than my normal work, I assume that there will be more Christian acceptance of it.

Review: "Marino, Frank, & Mahogany Rush: Eye of the Storm" - Sea of Tranquility - The Web Destination for Progressive ...
While Eye of the Storm is quite diffferent than many of Marino's heavier albums from the late 70's and early 80's, the guitarist has shown that with age comes maturity on this latest release.
There is a hightened sense of spirituality on Eye of the Storm, as evidenced on the lyrics to "Ordinary Man" as well as "Heat of the Moment" which suggest that Marino has taken religion very seriously in recent years.
As mentioned, Eye of the Storm may not be as heavy as some of Marino's earlier albums, but it doesn't need to be.

Neurosis: The Eye of Every Storm - PopMatters Music Review
Album opener "Burn" gets things off to a quick start, but the song's seven minute excursion into the darker depths of nu-metal is a bit of a red herring, as its churning rhythms and riffs aren't repeated anywhere else on the album.
The Eye of Every Storm is brilliantly paced, as the instrumental "Shelter" provides a brief respite from all the lengthier songs, and the elegiac "I Can See You" brings things to a solemn conclusion.
This album's breadth will test the patience of many people, but for those who like Tool's great Lateralus, the murky, doom jazz of Bohren & der Club of Gore, or Anathema's recent A Natural Disaster, The Eye of Every Storm is worthy of their attention.

As the title of the album, Eye of the Storm, suggests these are mainly songs of the sea.
To add a bit of light-hearted entertainment to the album the seventh track is a jovial song "Old Spice," where McWhorter takes a side-ways look at nautical terms.

NEUROSIS "THE EYE OF EVERY STORM" --- THE MUSIC SYNDICATE
The Eye of Every Storm is like walking into an ornately decorated, yet meticulously organized room -- there is simply too much to take in with just a shallow glance.
But, The Eye of Every Storm reaches far beyond what we’ve come to expect from the Bay Area band in its nearly 20-years of existence.
Throughout The Eye of Every Storm, dry and upfront-sounding drums and instruments weave and lock together in a way that’s utterly alien to most "heavy" music.

Eye reminds me of some of George Harrison's less distinguished albums; there's a considerable amount of craft on displace and clearly the heart's in the right place, but there needed to be someone to edit the material into a strong, conhesive set.
The first track on In The Eye of the Storm was the classic Had a Dream(Sleeping With the Enemy) is a classic.
The album's closing track however is the other classic on the album aside Had a Dream which is the epic Only Because of You which is 8 minutes and 40 seconds of pure magic with great vocals and a stunning Hodgson guitar solo in the middle.

My qualms with the album are small, and there is amazing stuff at work here, so I expect this album will muscle its way into my rotation whenever I'm in the mood for something cool and relaxing.
This track starts off looking like it is going to be an especially heavy one, and for the most part it is, except for a few little interludes that I think the song would actually be better without.
