An Eyemouth notary-public, George Sprott, was executed in 1608 for being privy to the Gowrie Conspiracy, into which he w as drawn by Logan of Fast Castle; from Eyemouth the Duke of Marlborough assumed his first title of Baron in the peerage of Scotland.
Eyemouth is in the presbytery of Chirnside and synod of Merse and Teviotdale; the living is worth £279.

Eyemouth is dominated by Gunsgreen House, a grand merchant’s house overlooking the harbour.
Tragedy struck Eyemouth on ‘Black Friday’, 14 th October 1881, when 189 fishermen, 129 of them from the town, were lost.
A hundred years later, Eyemouth Museum was established by the townspeople in memory of that terrible event.

Eyemouth is the home of the 'Inchcape Yachts', boats designed and built in Eyemouth and now sailing all over the world.
This motor sailer was built at Eyemouth Boat Building Co. and is similar to the Inchcape class of Motor Sailors built by that yard.
She was specifically designed to cross the Atlantic under sail and motor for charter on the east coast of the USA and crossed to and from twice spending several years on charter work.

A large village of Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders, Eyemouth is situated at the mouth of the Eye Water 8 miles (13 km) north of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
This large fishing and holiday resort town on the Berwickshire coast became a burgh of barony in 1597 and was the port for Coldingham Priory.
In the late 1990s, Eyemouth has benefitted from considerable private housing development, a further extension to the harbour, a new fishmarket, with visitor centre, and an ice plant capable of producing 30 tonnes of ice per day and delivering it directly into the holds of the fishing boats.

Fishing has been the life and soul of Eyemouth since the 13th century and the Eyemouth Museum, in the Auld Kirk on Market Place, has displays on the town's fishing heritage.
The centrepiece is the Eyemouth Tapestry, made by local people in 1981 to mark the centenary of the Great Disaster of 1881, when 189 local fishermen were drowned during a violent storm.
