		In ancient Kerala a majority of fighters in the army of any King were Thiyyas.Even the Cheraman Perumal who was believed to have gone to Middle east was also believd to be from this community.And they were predominantly Buddhists before the advent of Brahmimns from elsewhere.
		In northern Kerala Ezhavas are also called Billavas and they are known as Beliched/ Belichappad locally and many of them have a surname Poojari.Many of the families here have a Garodi attached to their house similar to the Kalari attached to Ezhava/Thiyya family elsewhere in Kerala.
