He died at Croydon on the 5th of August 1633, and was buried at Guildford, his native place, where he had endowed a hospital with lands to the value of 300 a year.
Abbot was a conscientious prelate, though narrow in view and often harsh towards both separatists and Romanists.

I know that Abbot was a very highly respected scholar in the area of textual criticism of the NT manuscripts, even though he was known to be unorthodox in his personal beliefs.
Abbot never got the chance, Ray, that is all too apparent from what Thayer has to say about him.

Beyond his many books, he also helped to create, under Walcott, the Smithsonian Scientific Series as a fund-raising venture, and wrote three of the dozen books in the series starting in 1929.
