Busby's writing style isn't something that I rave about -- it tells the story and that's about the size of it.
However, Busby does some things with telling the story that are, in my experience, somewhat unusual.
So, in a desultory manner, I think what I'm trying to say is that Busby isn't a great writer, but he tells a good story, and he tells part of the story in a fairly unusual way.

Busby, F.M. - Books - Magic Bean Dip
The Demu are exoskeletal aliens with the religious belief that they are the only true beings with souls, and a crusade the mold all other species to look and act as they do.
Busby's exploration of how and why the Demu became what they are is in-depth and appealing, and raises many simularities with terrestrial humans and predudices of all kinds.
F.M. Busby's characters are vividly drawn, and you leave the book wanting more from these characters.

The book: F.M. Busby's "The Breeds of Man." I enjoyed the book hugely and went at the copywriting with gusto.

The main characters have the traditional amazing talents of space opera, but Busby gives them correspondingly large character flaws to make them believeable.
First the series was published as two separate books, then as a single book, then as three separate books (with the first original book being split into two new books).
There is also a collection called 'The Rebel Dynasty' in two volumes: Volume 1: Star Rebel, Rebel's Quest Volume 2: The Alien Debt, Rebels' Seed The uiverse of the UTE includes all of the books except _The Demu Trilogy_ and _The Breeds of Man_.

But back in Indiana, where Buz was born, there had been another Francis Marion Busby, who lived several generations earlier.

This is Peter F. Hamilton's first stand alone novel, and although Hamilton lacks Reynolds' scientific background or Zindell's incredible world building skills, he more than makes up for it with compulsive, page turning storytelling.
These are interesting because Busby is positively trying to get to grips with the problem of the commanding economy fall out of touch with the colonies.
The book follows two people who meet in a plague zone, a doctor who's an expert in altered geneomes and a child whose sister dies from a plague caused by a flawed genetic treatment for a disease.

SF Reviews Slow Freight by F. M. Busby
There are good ideas but the writing is dull.
Pretty much everything else is OK. I loved the title, liked the cover and have always admired the author's name ("FM Busby" has a mysterious yet decisive air, on the other hand, Francis Marion was perhaps too indeterminate).
TriV TV, some aliens, a novel FTL drive system plus some sex scenes to help one through the more boring sections.

Near light-speed travel allows Rissa and the non-Earth characters to take what F. Busby calls THE LONG VIEW (sometimes sold as a separate novel).
Of course their enemies are institutions that endure and have a nasty tendency to co-opt even Rissa and Bran's friends.
Although the writing is sometimes clunky, Busby's world building more than compensates for this.

Although the teleportation process seems to work at first, Banning figures out the con, which, in a double flip, may succeed after all.
As always, Busby's uniquely gritty prose style is a pleasure, his characters real and individual and his near-future completely convincing.
But the stretching devices are painful: obstacles are thrown in the paths of characters merely to drag out the story, and the last third of the book is an overextended epilogue.

Busby's stories often involve a protagonist who overcomes a poor, even abusive, upbringing (the Rissa and Tregare novels take this to extremes!) to become a competent hero, involved in various 'space opera' style adventures, usually with some fairly 'hard' science component.
An engaging enough story on the whole, but not riveting.
