Formula One, abbreviated to F1 and also known as Grand Prix racing, is the highest class of single-seat open-wheel formula auto racing.
However, when Colin Chapman entered F1 as a chassis designer and later founder of Lotus, British racing green came to dominate the field for the next decade.
These were mostly aimed at better matching the speed of a car with both the available space to slow down in before reaching a barrier and the ability of those barriers to safely absorb the energy of a crash.

An apparent confidentiality agreement prevented the behind-doors outcome to be known, but lawyers told the High Court judge that the case would no longer need to proceed in May.
It is suggested that the deal might prevent a damaging split in F1, precipitated by discontented carmakers including BMW, Mercedes and Renault.
