	The Grumman Story
		Essentially, the F3F was a redesign of its earlier F2F sibling, incorporating a slightly more powerful version of the Pratt & Whitney R-1535 than that fitted to the F2F.
		Not all F3F fighters went to the Navy.
		This aircraft is that of the Squadron Commander, as indicated by the number in the 5-F-1 indentifying code.

		The key characteristics are a two piece, mid-mounted wing, a one piece V tail, a new Herrig wing section and a nicely balanced planform.
		It held the F3F record for a while of 32.97 seconds set by Jan Hansen of Denmark at VR98 in Wales.

	Muche's Warbirds: The Grumman F3F: The U.S. Navy's Last Biplane Fighter
		The first squadron to receive the F3F was Fighter Squadron 5B (VF-5B) stationed aboard the USS Ranger (CV- 4).
		It was a hybrid aircraft which mated the F3F fuselage with a set of F2F wings.

		An interesting sidelight on the F3F story is the fact that although none survived World War II, in April, 1990, divers discovered an intact F3F-2 that had ditched in 1800 feet of water off San Diego.
		The first F3F kits were vacuform models appearing in the 1970’s.
		The first injection molded kit was issued by Pegasus in the eighties, and it was a pretty crude kit, but it did look like the airplane, and it was a very welcome addition at the time.

		This is the first time an F3F race was ever run in the southwest-facing slope in Fei Ngo Shan.

		The Hong Kong Radio Control Soaring Society organized a 60" F3F slope race in Ma On Shan on Sunday, 5 March 2006.
