Arlington, TX The last remaining F-6U Pirate aircraft is now under going restoration at the Vought plant in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The aircraft was transferred from the New England Air Museum to Vought on October 2002.
Brighton, MI Is tne Pirate by Vought one of the aircraft that I saw in a picture many years ago in a Wings or Airpower mag,.

 Vought F6U Pirate - carrier-borne fighter
The Pirate had retractable tricycle landing gear, jettison-able auxiliary fuel tanks at each wingtip, and the pilot accommodated high on the fuselage, well forward of the wing.
The first of the three prototypes made its maiden flight at Muroc Dry Lake on 2 October 1946, powered by a 1361kg thrust Westinghouse J34-WE-22 turbojet mounted in the aft fuselage.
Extra fins were added on the tailplane to reduce the lateral instability caused by the extended rear fuselage.

Comes in a plastic bag containing one sprue of about 30 light grey short run injection molded parts with a bit of flash encumbering them - and thick attachment points to the sprue in some cases which will require careful removal.

Considering, to my knowledge, that this is the only 72nd Pirate on the market one does not have much choice if one wants this plane in their collection.

The F6U was developed in response to the U.S. Navy's need for its first carrier-based jet fighter.
Competing against McDonnell's F2H Banshee and North American's FJ-1 Fury, the Pirate never saw full deployment and in fact all 30 airframes built achieved total air time of only 945 hours.
Nevertheless, this is an interesting story of "figuring out the jets." 34 pgs., 55 photos and many original engineering drawings.
