  The Grumman F9F Panther - USA
When the Korean war began in 1950, the F9F Panther comprised the vast majority of US Navy carrier based aircraft.
The dash 5 was a formidable ground attack weapon with a capacity of 2,000 lbs (907.20 kg) of bombs and six 5" (12.7 cm) rockets, in addition to four 20 mm cannons mounted in the nose with 200 rounds each.
Civilian pilots seem also to have been fascinated by the F9F, with some still flying as late as 1996.

  F9F-2 Panther
It was the first Navy jet to shoot down an enemy aircraft, the first Navy jet to shoot down an enemy jet-powered aircraft and the first jet aircraft used by the Blue Angels aerobatic team.
The F9F, although clearly outperformed by the Soviet MiG-15, brought down five of the swept wing enemy fighters.
The F9F it replaced was badly damaged during a landing accident and is now on static display at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida.

 Scratch built F9F Panther
But I will change her name from F9F Panther to F9F ****cat, because that's what she is. From the easy hand launch to the belly slide landings, she is well behaved.
As the F9F was sharing airspace with a noisy 2 stroke glo, I was not sure what the cause of the LVC was.
I only have one flight of the F9F with the new pack but the difference is very noticable.

After some numerical evolution, the project was designated "Design 93."
rumman's Design 93 was, essentially, a swept-wing conversion of the F9F Panther.
It retained the fuselage, vertical tail, engine, and landing gear of the F9F-5, but was fitted with wings and horizontal tail surfaces swept at 35 degrees.

The F9F-2 went on the become the US Navy's "Blue Angel" demonstration team's first jet.
Later versions of the F9F received a swept wing.
The resulting superior performing aircraft was renamed the "Cougar." F9F series production ended in 1958 with the F9F-8T jet trainer.

Not long ago I had an opportunity to buy an old Monogram kit of the F9F Panther.
I like colorful airplanes and I just couldn’t get inspired about a glossy sea blue airplane so it sat around for several months until one evening I was looking at an old Squadron F9F Panther / Cougar book and there on page 21 was the scheme I wanted to do.
It is an aircraft that was assigned to the Advanced Training Unit 206 based at Sherman Field at NAS Pensacola, Florida in the mid 60’s.

 Dare F9F Panther EDF conversion update, anyone? - RC Groups
For those who are still planning or are involved in a conversion, any tips on fan placement, ducting, etc? I was planning on using a Hacker B20 on an EDF300.
This F9F was designed as a s400 prop job.
If he's waiting for rotor adapters then the fan is probably the Wemotec Microfan, which I see on the site that EJF is also calling the EDF300.

 SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THE F9F PANTHER
With a balsa and ply construction the estimated weigh may be in 15 Kg.
By the way, Tommy, you won't need the pics of behind the seat, all the detail you need is already there; right down to the cabin pressure reg., wiring and hoses....
I found some old pictures of a F9f nose gear, this may help you.

The F9F Panther was Grumman's first jet fighter.
Flying off of the USS Valley Forge, F9F-2s became the first Navy jet fighter ever used in combat when they went into action over Korea on July 3, 1950, and on November 9 the same year an F9F pilot became the Navy's first to shoot down a jet aircraft when he destroyed a MiG-15.
There are no Panther photos yet, but this is the type of paint scheme that we would like to use.
