The first FA Cup final played outside of England was in the final of the 2000/2001 season at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
For the first time, the FA Cup was played under a roof in the final of the 2002/2003 season, held on May 17, 2003 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, with Arsenal F.C. and Southampton F.C. benefitting from cover from the rain (Arsenal were the 1 - 0 winners).

Professionals were paid to play by their clubs, and the only cup competitions such clubs were allowed to enter were the FA Cup and, for clubs outside The Football League, the FA Trophy.
In recent years, entry to the FA Vase has been restricted to clubs in the eighth and lower tiers of the English football league system, those in the three levels above that entering the FA Trophy.
Two FA Vase winners, Forest Green Rovers and Tamworth, have gone on to play in the Football Conference at the top level of the non-league pyramid.

The FA yesterday (Tuesday 10th February) announced that the venue and the date for the Final of The FA Vase, in partnership with Carlsberg, have been changed.
The FA took the decision to move the Final from West Ham as the Division One side could be involved in a play-off fixture on the same date.
The finals of both The FA Trophy and The FA Vase will continue to be played at prestigious grounds until 2006 when the new Wembley Stadium is due to be completed.

The English FA Vase was created in 1974 in place of the defunct FA Amateur Cup, contested since 1894.
Many clubs that have hitherto participated in the Amateur Cup used to opportunity to claim for themselves professional status and qualify for the FA Trophy, although with the introduction of the pyramid system in 1979 the FA restricted FA Trophy eligibility to levels 5-8 of the Pyramid, which returned many smaller clubs to the Vase.
Until 1999 teams were given byes to preliminary and first rounds based on their previous performances, and not on the league they play in, like today.

It seemed from a very early stage that Winchester City were going to be triumphant in the FA Vase Final at Birmingham City’s St Andrews on a bright, sunny and very warm Sunday afternoon.
With Matthew Bicknell still not recovered from the heavy knock he had taken in the previous round away at Mossley, he was joined on the sidelines by Liam Green through injury whilst target man Ian Mancey was unable to travel, being hospitalised by a mystery viral illness.
In an excellent cup-tie for the neutrals, City squandered several chances that could have taken the game away from Mossley a lot earlier in the proceedings but as it was the large City travelling contingent of fans were left worrying to the very end.

More of a crowd down their that saw the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup against Coalville this time, 36 then i seem to remember (Coalville were rewarded with slightly more at Wycombe the other week).
Has anyone else ever witnessed an FA Vase match, i seen some good stuff on the day and didn't regret going to the City Ground to watch the reds beat mighty Reading.
Now when it comes to the FA Trophy (which is for higher non-league teams than the vase....) I've seen my dad play at Wembley in the final.....special day....apart from the fact they lost 3-0.....

For the first time in their history Loughborough Dynamo were included in the draw made on July 5th at Soho Square, FA Headquarters.

They reached the second round proper of the F.A. Cup in 1996-97 having defeated Brighton And Hove Albion in the first round after a replay and an exciting penalty shoot-out.
In the F.A. Vase the club twice reached the last 8 and once the last 16 and won the Jewson League Cup in 1999, defeating Felixstowe Port And Town 7-2 at Woodbridge.
In 2004-05 the club were again successful, they won their fifth consecutive Ridgeons Premier League title (a record for the Eastern Counties League), and again reached the final of the F.A. Vase.
