FATE (role-playing game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fate is currently based on the FUDGE gaming system.
Fate gained a large number of adherents both for its high level of support, which is unusual for a free game, and for the numerous innovative gaming mechanics.
While Fate using FUDGE's verbal scale and four three-sided dice, it breaks from practically every other role-playing game by doing away with mandatory traits such as Strength and Intelligence, and substantially reworking the "experience point" mechanic.

While the genius of Fate is in the character generation, the resolution mechanic incorporates the genius perfectly.

 RPG Vault: Fate Announced
While The Fate may at first appear to follow the conventions of classic RPG gameplay to the letter, the game does, in fact, bring a host of innovations to the genre, including a unique 'group control' feature which employs state-of-the art artificial intelligence to allow the player to control the game's three major characters simultaneously.
In addition, The Fate allows all of its player-controlled characters to use magic through the use of 'Sharronts', which increase their defensive abilities by allowing for long-distance combat.
Fate was announced along with the publication plans of 4AM Entertainment, which plans to release the RPG as the first of its initial four-product line-up.

And Fate, a number of its fans have told me, "may as well not be Fudge" since there's little to zero text overlap between the two, and it stands alone.
We even have a few extra rungs in the adjective ladder, we don't *insist* you use the adjectives (though we do, ourselves) instead of the numbers, and a number of our "core" mechanics have no real relationship to what you'll find in basic Fudge at all...
I know I started out with Fate as a Fudge game; the fact that it became its own beast in many ways doesn't *necessitate* divorcing it from its origins.
