General Dynamics F-111 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Armament for the strategic bombing role was the Boeing AGM-69 SRAM (short-range attack missile), two of which could be carried in the internal weapons bay and two more on the inner underwing pylons.
Nuclear gravity bombs were also typical FB armament, although it could also carry a substantial conventional bombload to a theoretical total of fifty 750 lb (340 kg) M117 weapons.
In 1990, the SRAM was withdrawn from service amid concerns about the integrity of its nuclear warhead in the case of fire, and subsequently only unpowered bombs were available.

The US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara officially announced on December 10, 1965 that Strategic Air Command would receive the FB-111A to replace early versions of the Boeing B-52 and the B-58A "Hustler".
The Air Force had initially planned to order 263 of the "FBs" to equip 14 squadrons, including 20 to be used for combat crew training and 33 for support and testing.
Seen as an 'interim bomber' pending the Advanced Manned Strategic Aircraft (AMSA) or Rockwell B-1A, the new Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird slashed the order to 112 and finally reduced it to 76.

Went to work for General Dynamics after the AF and came back to FB's at Plattsburgh in '85 as a Tech Rep. Many, m ny fond memories of the people and airplanes from both assignments.
I went to GD in Fort Worth for the acceptance inspection and after the test program was over I was t ere when GD removed the special equipment from 161 to place her into service with a SAC unit.
Found them while looking through old photos and thought that just maybe someone would like to see them...Th FB was quite impressive...especially to a young troop walking the flightline, and probably more so to the airmen who flew them...good group of guys.

I recall not liking the purplish-brown tone initially, but looking back on it now (it's been over a year since I made the print), it seems kinda neat.

After some prints on Ilford FB Matt I changed to Agfa FB 111 Glossy, in order to get deeper fls with better shadow detail, to be able to transmit the mood of the jazz club where I am photographing.
The other papers available locally are from Kodak and the Ilford MG FB Glossy.
I've used both Ilford MG FB Glossy and the latest Oriental VC fibre papers.

I think my vision started to go bad when I started to paint the needles in the dials.
Just a few shots of the FB in game.
I dunno what role the FB would play in the game, it was a SAC nuclear bomber, until nearly the end of it's career, so the BSU's are prolly a bit fictitious.

The only one I am not sure about is the F-111.
I would not know about which model it is of the 111 either.
As I said in some earlier threads These are not really accurate schemes anyway.

Maybe SAC just refused to fly its bombing missions in an aircraft with a basic "fighter" designation ;-).
Also, "FB" can be conveniently read as "fighter-bomber".
This is probably the best known "illegal" designation of them all!
