The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today found that Vonage's VoIP service is "interstate" in nature, meaning that individual states may neither regulate Vonage as they would traditional telephone companies nor set the rates, terms, and conditions of Vonage's service.
In granting Vonage's request, the FCC determined that the company's VoIP service cannot be separated into intrastate and interstate components, since customers can use the service from a broadband connection anywhere in the world.
