Frequency-division multiplexing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frequency-division multiplexing (FDM) is a form of signal multiplexing where multiple baseband signals are modulated on different frequency carrier waves and added together to create a composite signal.
FDM can also be used to combine multiple signals before final modulation onto a carrier wave.
In this case the carrier signals are referred to as subcarriers: an example is stereo FM transmission, where a 38 kHz subcarrier is used to separate the left-right difference signal from the central left-right sum channel, prior to the frequency modulation of the composite signal.

Rapid Prototyping Consortium at Milwaukee School of Engineering   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
FDM is a manufacturing process that creates successive cross-sections of a three-dimensional object from threads of ABS plastic, ABS medical-grade plastic, or investment casting wax.
Similar to a hot glue gun, the FDM first extrudes plastic threads through the support tip to create support structures for any overhanging portions of the part to be built.
The FDM modeler head moves in both the x- and y-axis across a foundation and deposits a layer of material.

Xpress3D: Fused Deposition Modeling   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) – Process using molten plastics or wax extruded by a nozzle that traces the parts cross sectional geometry layer by layer.
The FDM rapid prototyping process is akin to using a hot glue gun to make parts.
The drawback to using the FDM method is that the parts generally take much longer to build and the layering is clearly visible because of the extrusion type process.

The FDM is anticipated to be 4 times faster than the old divide and concur method, and twice as fast as FCIs.
The FDM takes about the same amount of time to install as FCIs, however, a typical loop circuit requires only one FDM installation or 12 or more FCI installations.
The FDM can therefore be 12 times faster to install than an equivalent FCI installation.

Frequency-division multiplexing (FDM) is a scheme in which numerous signals are combined for transmission on a single communications line or channel.
When FDM is used in a communications network, each input signal is sent and received at maximum speed at all times.
However, if many signals must be sent along a single long-distance line, the necessary bandwidth is large, and careful engineering is required to ensure that the system will perform properly.
