The World Cup trophy was presented by FIFA President Arthur Drewry – his predecessor Jules Rimet having died in 1956 at the age of 83.
The World Cup trophy was dusted off for the tournament, after spending much of the Second World War stowed away in a shoebox under the bed of FIFA Vice-President Ottorino Barassi.
The 1974 FIFA World Cup™ was the first to be televised in colour, and marked the first appearance of the World Cup trophy designed by Italy's Silvio Gazzaniga.
