  AnimeOnDVD.com - FLCL Recommendation
FLCL is a fully computer animated production using digital ink and paint technology where traditional hand drawings are scanned into computers to be colored if need be and pieced together to form the final digital—as opposed to film negative—animation.
Most of the Japanese cast for FLCL were relatively unknown and not long in voice acting, with a few of them, including two of the leads, debuting in their roles.
Whatever FLCL means for those who experience its crazy ride, it speaks to a common fantasy for aliens and robots, sex and rock and roll, action, destruction and growing up with it all—hopefully intact—hopefully sane.

 Amazon.com: FLCL (Fooly Cooly) - Vol. 1: DVD: Jun Mizuki,Mayumi Shintani,Izumi Kasagi,Rick Tetzlaff,Shizuki ...   (Site not responding. Last check: )
In summary, FLCL is a story about a 11 (I believe, may be 10) year old boy named Naota and his brother's strange girlfried named Mamimi, and what happens when they meet a strange 20-year old woman named Haruhara Haruko who claims to be an alien.
FLCL, however, undertakes to be a well (and outrageously) written satire on the entire alien girl sub-genre as well as a perfect example of its type.
FLCL is a story about sexual awareness and coming of age and yet introduces it along side of an exciting if somewhat disjointed aliens-meet-rock and roll music video-type storyline.

 Absolute Anime / FLCL
In addition to its over-the-top weirdness, FLCL is loaded with self-reference, subtle elements, self-parody, a few degrees of tastelessness, and a story of coming of age in a place where the people who should care about you don't and those who shouldn't do.

FLCL (Japanese „Éï„É™„Ç؄ə Furi Kuri, pronounced and officially romanized as Fooly Cooly) is a six episode Japanese animation OVA series, the brainchild of director Kazuya Tsurumaki of Gainax and released by Gainax and Production I.G. The series has been broadcast on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block numerous times.
FLCL also brings up minor but notable pop references such as the Tomino Hammer which is referring to Yoshiyuki Tomino's original Mobile Suit Gundam series including an unrealistic hammer weapon in a relatively plausible Real Robot Universe.
FLCL also parodies slightly nostalgic Japanese culture itself, by switching styles to traditional kabuki at one point, presenting now defunct brands of drinks, Japanese style bread, and nostalgic 3-wheeled automobiles that were prominent in Post-war Japan.

Sorting out the mess: FLCL revolves around the world of a 6th Grade schoolboy called Naota Nandaba, a kid who somehow always thinks he's more 'grown-up' and mature than other kids his age, or for that matter of fact even the adults (and some of that is justified, I suppose!
What's cool about FLCL is that it is done on a 'rotational' basis among a team of different directors and supervisors who takes on the job for each episode.

It is enough to say that FLCL is entertaining even when there aren't giant robots and incurably violent aliens dominating the screen, which is more than you could say for many less artfully conceived sci-fi series.
FLCL's music is great with the show or alone, though -- I own both import albums and regularly turn them up to dangerous volumes.
Logic dictates that FLCL should be an undisciplined and unaffecting mess, given all the insanity that its creators are attempting to weld into a functioning whole.
