Plans for the construction of four stadiums and upgrading of six others in South Africa's nine 2010 host cities has been completed, and their funding secured, and construction work on all the venues is due to begin over the next few months.
The contract for revamping the stadium was awarded to Grinaker-LTA Construction, a subsidiary of JSE-listed The Aveng Group, in a joint venture with Interbeton bv, part of the Royal BAM Group from Holland.
Construction is scheduled to begin in two weeks, and the stadium is expected to be completed by the end of March 2009, Sapa reports.

I was told that the stadium could accommodate 80 000 spectators and yet the newspaper reports indicated that 95 000 people had entered the stadium for the match.
At Ellis Park and other stadia around the country, the gradient of the seating is so steep that should spectators need to urgently evacuate the stadia, it is a given that some people are going to be trampled upon as well as fall down the steep steps.

We will be playing some of our up coming home matches at the Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg - personally I would have preferred using the FNB Stadium.
Many of the players prefer playing at the Olympia Stadium for some reason or the other so I will go with their instincts.
I will be going out to Rustenburg on Friday to see the stadium and inspect the pitch and also decide our game plan after I have looked at the set up there.
