  FPSO WORLD-FLEET
FPSOs are found in all offshore areas where floating production is used -- with the notable exception of the Gulf of Mexico where FPSOs have still not been employed.
At the other extreme, an FPSO for a marginal field utilizing a second hand tanker and fitted with a 50,000 b/d plant could entail a capex of one tenth this amount.
An FPSO operating offshore Libya since 2001 began producing on the field for a capital expenditure of $55 million, with conversion and topsides plant installation done at Malta Drydocks.

 FPSO Roll Motions
Incorporate the effects of bilge keels on the FPSO hull by analyzing the hull sections using the developed 2-D analysis, and by determining the modified hydrodynamic coefficients using a strip theory type of approach.
In other words, for the FPSO hull we studied and the Froude no. of 0.6 a roll amplitude of 20 degrees in a bare hull, will be reduced to 14 degrees with a 2% bilge keel length, and to 10 degrees with 4% bilge keel length.
In the case of an FPSO hull the current (Euler) method was applied in the case of 2-D hull section with and without bilge keels.

 Products > FPSO Manager
FPSOs are specialized vessels that provide critical support to the offshore oil and gas industry.
Given the specialized domain in which an FPSO operates, it’s obvious that it requires a specialized integrated management system that has been designed to cater to its unique requirements.
FPSO Manager has been designed on the same platform as ShipManager, Teledata’s widely acclaimed integrated shipmanagement software suite.

 FPSO
The design of layouts for Living Quarters for FPSO vessels is best based on the well tried and tested layouts which have been developed in the UK for fixed and floating oil and gas production offshore platforms, over a period in excess of a quarter of a century.
Whilst some FPSO are sited in placid waters and are passively moored, it is still sensible to maintain this orientation, given that the weather conditions during the delivery sea voyage from fabrication yards are part of the equation.
FPSO can be a passively moored hulks with no motive power; a vessel with limited motive power, to keep it on station; or a ship with full motive power.

FPSO's - Coming to the Gulf of Mexico - Marine Resources Committee Newsletter Archives - Vol. 4, No. 1 - November 2000
Prior to deepwater development in the Gulf of Mexico, it seemed unlikely that FPSO’s would be used in Gulf due to the existing pipeline infrastructure and industry’s apparent preference for fixed platform technology.
In 1996 industry representatives and the MMS began discussing the introduction of FPSOs to the Gulf of Mexico, and the discussion has intensified recently.
On August 15, 2000, MMS announced the availability of a long-awaited draft Environmental Impact Statement for "ship-shaped FPSO systems which will be used mostly in deepwater areas of the OCS in the Central and Western GOM." 65 Fed. Reg.

 OSV's
In the MOU, the Coast Guard indicated that it considers an FPSO to be a "vessel" under the statutory definition because the stored oil is "cargo." As a tank vessel, an FPSO would therefore fall within the OPA '90 rubric.
However, since FPSOs will not transport the oil, it is not necessarily clear that the oil constitutes "cargo" and whether OPA '90 applies.
The Coast Guard has not issued definitive guidance on this issue, which depends in part on whether the FPSO is in fact a "vessel." In any event, there is room for argument given the significant variation in Coast Guard work hour and watch requirements among various types of vessels.

The tendency of US-based designers, for example in West African FPSOs, to opt for multiple gas turbines driving individual equipment items also flies in the face of established European practice, which is more generally based on large centralised gas turbines supplying power to distributed electric drives.

An FPSO is a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit and is just one of a range of different types of floating systems used by the offshore oil and gas industry today.
FPSOs, which combine production, storage and offloading facilities, are usually "ship-shaped" and may be purpose built or converted from an existing hull, incorporating key modifications to increase the strength or fatigue resistance in particular areas.
Other recent start-ups using FPSO technology are Amerada Hess's Chestnut field, also in the Central North Sea, which came on stream in July 2001and BG's Blake field which is linked by pipeline (known as a "tie-back" system) to Talisman's existing FPSO facility on the Ross field.
