		BM1 Baker, commenting on the significance of George Washington's role in commemorating the D-Day invasion, said the ceremony was important because a lot of people, not just us, but all the Battle Group's crews, showed the vets that we appreciate what they did and what they went though to do it.
		USS Normandy, the George Washington Battle Group, and British and French warships anchored off the historic beach heads in order to pay tribute and commemorate the 50th year since the D-Day invasion.
		Bainbridge, Sfinge and Georges Leygues are assigned to Task Force 440, participating in Operation Sharp Guard.

		ESTOCIN was underway once again at the end of June 1999 to participate in INDEX 99-2 with the John F Kennedy Battle Group.
		At the completion of the JTFEX, ESTOCIN was chosen by Commander, Second Fleet to perform a bilateral exercise with two French Navy ships, the FS JEANNE D’ARC and FS GEORGES LEYGUES.
		The USS Estocin was decommissioned on April 4, 2002 and began preparations for its transfer to the government of Turkey.

		Atypically, it appears that much development work had already been done on the Vampir system by the time it was publicly announced. The first service installations took place on the last three frigates of the Georges Leygues class between 1986 and 1990.
		By 1988, Vampir was set to become a standard installation on major French warships. However, the weight and movement of the system made it unsuitable for the smaller warships favored on the export market. In response, a downsized version, the Vampir ML-11, was introduced.
