It is to be noticed that Weismanns conception of the processe~ ~f ontogeny is strictly evolutionary, and in so far is a reversioi to the general opinion of biologists of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Nor are we yet definitely in a position to say that the germinal mass (nuclear matter, protoplasm, andc., of the reproductive cells) differs essentially from the general substance of the organismwhether, in fact, there is continuity of germ-plasm as opposed to continuity of living material from individual to individual.
Heredity and Development. The actual process by which the germinal mass slowly assumes the characters of the adultthat is, becomes like the parentdepends on the interaction of two sets of factors: the properties of the germinal material itself, and the influences of substances and conditions external to the germinal material.

The majority of FS isolated from porcine ovaries was FS-303, which may have been derived from FS-315 by proteolytic cleavage of the 12 COOH-terminal amino acids.
They suggest that cell-associated FS traps activin more tightly in the matrix, thereby more effectively blocking the activity of activin on heparan sulfate proteoglycans of the cell surface and that cell-associated FS plays an important role in controlling the various actions of activin in a paracrine or autocrine manner.
FS protein production by cultured undifferentiated rat GC is up-regulated by FSH and activin, possibly via both protein kinase A and C pathways.

The oocytes were artificially activated with sequential treatment of A23187 and anisomycin; fertilization was then established by transfer or exchange of pronuclei with those of zygotes fertilized in vivo.
Although it is not clear whether egg cell nuclear transfer is imminent, its proposal creates the opportunity to (1) identify categories of germ-line interventions, (2) explore whether ethical issues vary according to the category of germ-line intervention, and (3) craft more precise policy guidelines in which graduated levels of germ-line interventions are recognized.

In the second experiment, Fs were cultured in serum-free medium with or without hypoxanthine for 16 days.

The Repository for Germinal Choice–nicknamed the Nobel Prize sperm bank–opened to notorious fanfare in 1980, and for two decades, women flocked to it from all over the country to choose a sperm donor from its roster of Nobel-laureate scientists, mathematical prodigies, successful businessmen, and star athletes.
Believing America was facing genetic catastrophe, Robert Graham, an eccentric millionaire, decided he could reverse the decline by artificially inseminating women with the sperm of geniuses.
In February 1980, Graham opened the Repository for Germinal Choice and stocked it with the seed of gifted scientists, inventors, and thinkers.

It is believed that AP polarity arises from the movement of the oocyte to the posterior of the nurse cells within the egg chamber.
The posterior follicle cells subsequently signal back to the oocyte to repolarize the oocyte microtubule cytoskeleton, probably by inducing the dissembly of the microtubule organizing center at the posterior of stage 6 oocytes.
A new microtubule nucleating activity is generated at the anterior margin of the oocyte, and as a consequence the germinal vesicle moves to the anterior margin of the oocyte, ready for the subsequent involvement of Gurken in establishing dorsal cell fate (González-Reyes, 1995 and Roth, 1995).
