Federal Writers' Project - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Federal Writers' Project (FWP) was a United States federal government project to fund written work and support writers during the Great Depression.
FWP was particularly charged with employing writers, editors, historians, researchers, art critics, archaeologists, geologists and cartographers.
As Blakey notes, "there were very few on the relief rolls who claimed literary expertise in the 1930s, so the FWP had few to choose from" (Blakey p.

FWP officials said in addition to heading off a budget shortfall, the money would be used to increase public land access, enhance fish and wildlife habitat, increase walleye stocking to 50 million fish a year, continue stocking some 6 million trout and salmon in state fisheries and maintain and expand a number of other programs.
FWP plans to schedule a set of statewide public meetings this fall on the fee increases.
An FWP news release cited the averaged costs of fishing and hunting licenses in the western states of Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming for comparison.

Still, FWP is heeding the recommendations of the Legislative Auditors office and already has made changes to its accounting system, according to Sue Daly, chief of finance for FWP.
In looking at FWP land acquisitions, auditors found that amounts recorded on the asset management system didn't always include the donated value associated with some acquisitions and other properties, which were acquired through land exchanges with other agencies, weren't recorded at their correct value.
In addition, two departments with the FWP - the land unit office and the asset management office - didn't always agree on the value of lands, with the land unit database recording a value of $56 million for properties and the asset management records stating the value at $75 million.

Also, MSSA wishes to remind FWP that it is hunters who pay the bills for wildlife management in Montana, and therefore, the collective voice of hunters must be given a commanding role in FWP management decisions that may have a profound effect on our traditions, culture and opportunities.
In addition to the management directives contained in Alternative 4, the new alternative would spell out the extent to which this alternative is required by controlling acts of the Legislature, as follows: HB 262 has been passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor, and carries an immediate effective date.
The new alternative prepared by FWP will necessarily be circumscribed by these acts, and not driven by public opinion polls, and not even by any perceived consensus of public comment concerning the draft EIS.

OutdoorsBest Forums: FWP river rules upheld: what do you think about that?
The fishing Outfitters Association of Montana (FOAM) challenged those rules saying FWP lacked the authority to introduce the rules, that the rules were introduced improperly, and that the rules were unconstitutional in that they unfairly discriminated against non-resident anglers.
Mine is that as long as a whole heck of a lot of the trout streams are on public land and mostly federal at that; those lands and streams should not be subject to state regulation or licensing in any manner that differentiates between residents and non-resident.
However, Montana FWP also reasons, as far as I can tell, that they control the water itself, regardless of how it was accessed.

This includes lobbying on Congressional legislation, and meeting with management officials in all agencies to demonstrate support of the FWP, encourage officials to support the program, and to obtain insight on the effectiveness of the agency's FWP at the national and local levels.
Because of their common mission and vision, employees charged with FWP responsibilities have good reason to work with FEW officers and members to develop goals and objectives for agency implementation of Affirmative Employment Plans and other program initiatives designed to meet the agency's unique needs and ensure equality of opportunity for women.

Missoulian - FWP to seek increases in resident hunting, fishing fees
FWP director Jeff Hagener made the announcement, and defended it as necessary to avoid cutting programs and staff.
Without a fee increase, FWP's revenue would be $3 million short of expenditures - with no program increases - by 2009, Hagener said.
If fee increases are not approved, he said, FWP would likely look to cuts in law enforcement, fish and wildlife surveys, hunting and fishing access programs, hatchery-fish stocking at lakes and reservoirs, land maintenance, and information and education activities.
