After a nice long run that focused almost solely on Deadpool, we are coming off a two-parter that remembered that Cable was also a star of this book.
Despite some initial misgivings about the direction Nicieza was taking his co-creation, he has really taken ownership of the character, paying due respect to the aspects of Deadpool's history that came from other writers (forgetting some of the less-than-stellar moments), and really advancing the character.

NICIEZA: Well, I have a couple of DC projects which are in different stages of completion right now, but they prefer not to blab too many details too soon, so I'll keep mum.
NICIEZA: It was a wonderful combination of Marvel asking right after I walked out the door from Acclaim with absolutely no guaranteed income staring me in the face and the fact that I have always like the character.
NICIEZA: Deadpool, `cause of the healing factor and the fact that Joe Kelly would make him say something so witty that Gambit would crumple in heaping mounds of laughter.

 Fabian Nicieza
Fabian Nicieza was born December 31, 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Fabian came in as regular writer on Psi-Force after the writers of the New Universe titles knew the handwriting was on the wall, several of the titles had already been canceled.
Fabian acknowledged past history without letting it bog him down and created a supporting cast in Jean-Luc, Courier, Fontenelle, the Mengos, Mercy, etc. that was better than many books have ever had in much longer runs.

Nicieza: I was never a DD fan until I saw Miller's first cover on the racks at 7-Eleven, but I had read various issues throughout his history.

Fabian's reputation as a "mutant-writer" used to terrify me until I discovered that he wasn't a mutant.
Fabian's comics career began in the editorial offices of Marvel Comics, but he was soon scripting several popular titles including "NEW WARRIORS", "X-MEN", "GAMBIT" and some non-mutant hero called "SPIDER-MAN".
His reputation was such that when Acclaim wanted to re-launch the VALIANT comics line of heroes, they tapped Nicieza as the man to spear-head the revival.

 MEANWHILE Interviews... Buffy Post Mortem
NICIEZA: I think "Viva" was a fun, fast-paced story with interesting insights into Pike, a relatively obscure character in the Buffy mythos, but I think "A Stake Through the Heart" is a better, deeper, more emotional story with a very different, "icky-horror" kind of feel to it.
NICIEZA: Hardest to get a handle on, for me, was Anya, because Emma Caulfield, bless her soul, has the quirkiest inflections and line readings around, which make it tough to nail her dialogue.
NICIEZA: Like any long-running TV show, it had it's good runs and its weaker ones, but the better shows, which Buffy most certainly was, maintain a higher, more consistent level of quality over the long haul and that's what makes them standout.

BY JENNIFER M. Writer Fabian Nicieza's comic odd couple, Cable & Deadpool are nearing their 25th issue and we've got some news on his plans for that anniversary issue.
NICIEZA: Since CDP #24 is a Deadpool-centric issue featuring Spider-Man, #25 is a Cable-centric issue that takes a look at Cable the Man, the "Messiah," and the Eventual-President-for-life-of-the-Free-World, but it does so through a very unique perspective, that of guest-star, Captain America.
NICIEZA: Certainly the reader reaction has been wonderful, I was well aware that I'm not as funny a writer as Joe Kelly or Gail Simone, so I knew my humor would be a tough sell to hardcore Deadpool fans who loved either Joe or Gail's runs.
