Aesop's Fables - Information about Aesop and his fables
Fables are short stories which teach a lesson and are often about animals.
Children read fables as a part of literature, but Aesop used the fable as a means of political and social criticism.
His fables have meaning for us today, but to assure that the reader understands the message, a moral is added to the fable.

This is a calm little comic about the inner life of an over-looked office worker and about the connections between people.
The comic mostly focuses on the faces of the characters and Tamblyn’s expressions are lovely.
Comic books – even highly literate ones – are about the combination of words and images and there’s just too many words and too little action.

AICN COMICS Reviews FABLES:1001 NIGHTS OF SNOWFALL! DOCTOR STRANGE! Warren Ellis' BLACK GAS 2! And Much More!!!! -- ...
The characters look like 70's comic characters, with the soft lines and somewhat "cartoony" textures, but they've got just enough realism to them to pull them into the modern age.
I’ve seen several examples lately of people having difficulty making the transition from writing comics to prose and visa versa, and this is one of those instances.
Visually imaginative, that’s what this one is. This is a comic book series from an artist about art and what happens to art after it’s been long forgotten.

BBC - h2g2 - 'Fables' - the Comic Book Series
DC Comics' Vertigo imprint is known for publishing series with a 'Mature Readers' label, which can mean anything from a sexual or violent content to more sophisticated storytelling than is usually found in mainstream comic books.
Fables, a recent (2002 onwards) hit from the imprint, includes much that earns it the 'Mature Readers' advisory label and yet one of the central characters is Snow White.
Fables has elevated him to cult status, and is probably what led to him getting the job of scripting Robin on a regular basis, no doubt in an attempt to woo non-superhero fans and get them hooked on Gotham's vigilantes.

Fables never took with me. I consider Willingham to be a great idea man, but not great with the follow through.
At the moment my comic buying is low cause i can’t get through to Edinburgh to get my fix (There’s a comic retailer closer but he’s so abomniably shit that i refuse to support him) and my preference for trades and complete runs means that I can’t get the books that i want.
part of the beauty of fables (and comics in general) is that when its written well, the furthest thing from your mind is what the man behind the curtain is doing or trying to say, and you can enjoy the story as if it was a story with no writer or agenda.

Fable Town is a part of New York City located around the cross streets Bullfinch and Kipling.
Keeping the nature of the Fables secret from the Mundane human world is the one of the highest laws of the Fable community.
Therefore, when the city of New York started to encroach on Fable Town in the 17th century the non-human Fables were banished to The Farm, a huge tract of land in upstate New York protected from prying "Mundy" eyes by many spells to hide it's true nature.

This column has dealt with Fables again, but this time it’s not about the ongoing story, this is an event in the Fables Universe that took place a few months ago but it’s never too late to experience.
The story is about all the heroes of fables, fairy tales, stories, myths and legends, all those characters created by folk or writers and established in the collective unconscious, and thus existing in a world called the Homelands, all that until a mysterious Adversary gathers a huge army and takes over their entire world.

Fables: Legends in Exile - PopMatters Comic Book Review
Comics as a medium has done its fair share of story-biting, whether it's as blatant as the use of the Norse god Thor or the ongoing morality plays that seem forever tied to the X-Men.
It would seem, therefore, that writer Bill Willingham was not only entering depleted territory when he launched Fables for the DC imprint Vertigo, but that comic readers would already know what to expect.
Driven from their homelands by a mysterious force known as "The Adversary", the characters of childhood fables have disguised themselves and now live among us (the "mundanes").

 “Jack Of Fables”
Co-written by Willingham and comics newcomer Matt Sturges, “Jack” is, in Sturges’ words, an ongoing monthly series centered on the adventures of one Jack Horner, sometimes known as “Jack of the Tales,” who is a troublesome, clever, arrogant, and devilishly handsome Fable.
He is of course remembered by “Fables” readers as the unscrupulous thief who stole a great deal of money from Fabletown, ran away to Hollywood, became a film producer and made movies based on his mythical exploits.
Sturges credits this difference in style between “Fables” and “Jack” to the fact that he is simply a different writer than Willingham, and brings his own peculiarities and sensibilities to the plot and dialogue.
