Professional Wrestling Online Museum - Ring Chronicle Hall of Fame Inductee - The Fabulous Freebirds
It was at this time that The Freebirds (who had not yet added Buddy Roberts to the team) started a bitter war with JYD...so bitter that it resulted in the Freebirds "blinding" JYD with an abrasive powder.
But could The Freebirds really be The Freebirds without a third man? Not as far as the Hayes and Gordy (as well as the fans) were concerned...but the longtime third Freebird, Buddy Jack Roberts, was retired.
The Fabulous Freebirds originated the idea of a 3-man team in wrestling, an idea that would be borrowed from them often in later years.

The Fabulous Freebirds first emerged on the wrestling scene on November 24, 1979 when the young, brash duo of Michael “P.S.” Hayes and Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy defeated “Cowboy” Bill Watts and Col. Buck Robley for the NWA Mid-South Tag Team Titles.
Regardless, the Freebirds’ opponents never knew exactly who they would be wrestling; and while Gordy and Roberts were the most frequent combination, it really just depended on who they felt like putting in the ring on a given night.
The Freebirds had a brief reincarnation in the Global Wrestling Federation in 1994, with Gordy and Garvin capturing the GWF titles, but the glory days of the original trio were long gone.

The real story here was before the match, as the Freebirds came to the ring with microphones, lip-synching the words to their new entrance music (their ‘new hit single’, entitled ‘I’m a Freebird, what’s your excuse?’) It was a catchy enough tune, but their hilariously bad attempts to lip-sync would have made Milli Vanilli blush.

RCA's "Fabulous Swing Collection" was released to exploit a national big band revival craze, led by groups like Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Brian Setzer's Orchestra and in full swing (pardon the pun) in 1998.
That revival has cooled but this generous (19 songs, 65 minutes) set remains among the era's better one-disc compilations (all songs from RCA family labels) for now third-generation fans.
While these songs swing sweeter than 1998's martini-and-cigar crowd might have liked, "Fabulous" may well be among the few big band CDs a new fan would need.
