  Timber and Turpentine Industries
During the fall and winter, this turpentine was scraped from the face of the tree, gathered in suitable boxes, packed in barrels, and was ready for market.
After the turpentine was gathered and placed in barrels, it was hauled to market by mule wagons (there were no trucks then) and if there had been, the roads were inadequate for their use.
Spirits of turpentine was used as a paint thinner and preserver of wood, but after 1835 it was used also as a solvent in the burgeoning rubber industry, particularly as an illuminant.

Gum naval stores: Turpentine and rosin from pine resin -Chapter 3. Processing and plant description
Turpentine (from a previous distillation) is added to bring the turpentine content of the resin to between 30% and 40% the precise amount added depends on whether good quality resin or 'scrape' is being processed.
A small proportion of the turpentine coming over at the beginning and end of the distillation may be collected separately as slightly lower-quality turpentine, and used for diluting the next batch of resin at the melter.
The water-turpentine distillate is led immediately to a separating tank; the upper turpentine layer overflows and passes first down to the base of the dehydrator and then upwards through a bed of rock salt to remove all traces of water.

KIDNEY STONES : Edgar Cayce Health Overview kidney stones
When a stone passes down the ureter from the kidney to the bladder, the pain produced is perhaps the most severe of all pains man experiences in bodily illnesses.
The problem facing the individual who has a kidney stone is either to leave it alone or to remove it by dissolution or surgery of one type or another.
Turpentine stupes may be used over a long period of time - and other measures that have been suggested in this commentary - but it must always be recognized that each person must make choices for himself.

 CHAPTER 8
Turpentine, rosin and derivatives of these which have been obtained via tapping of living pine trees (whether natural stands or plantations) are known collectively as gum naval stores (and the turpentine and rosin as gum turpentine and gum rosin, respectively).
Trade statistics are complex and difficult to analyze in terms of gum turpentine alone: firstly, because it is not always disaggregated from sulphate turpentine and secondly, because there is considerable trade in turpentine derivatives, with a consequent loss of identity in terms of the type of turpentine used as feedstock.
Turpentine purchased by the chemical industry as a source of isolates for conversion to pine oil and fragrance and flavour compounds is assessed on the basis of its composition.

 Naval Stores
The cups were emptied into barrels by crews of men who raveled the forest continually, and as the barrels were filled they were placed on platforms by the side of the rod and later were collected usually by four mule hauled wagons equipped with skids to help in the loading and taken to the still.
As the gummy matter was brought to the boiling point, turpentine was given off in the form of steam or vapor that passed through the coiled pipe.
These resin and turpentine products found their chief market among the manufactures of paint and varnishes, while resin was used in the manufacture of hard soaps, paper, and 100 commodities of daily use.

Phil Downs told me this tool is a cutter that attaches to same type of handle system to cut grooves in debarked face to channel the sap.
The pine pitch cut is a tall, wide, external slash in the bark exposing the sap layer of the wood, with V-shaped "cat-face" cuts in the wood to channel sap to the center and bottom of the cut where either the bark itself or two tin channels funnel the sap into a single Hurty pot.

On the face of it, the painting is very similar to Medieval and Renaissance depictions of these episodes from The Bible but it has neither the transcendence of the former nor the down-to-earthedness of the latter.

Turpentine : Turpentine was produced by distilling the pitch or “gum” from living pine trees.
One V-cut was added each week during the season, creating a chevron effect or “face” on the side of the tree.
Barrels of crude gum were then hauled to a turpentine distillery (“still”) to be rendered into turpentine and various by-products.

Turpentine Industry in Longleaf Pine Forest
A century earlier, the dominance of North Carolina in the production of turpentine earned it the title of Tarheel State (for the fl gummy tar that would accumulate on the bare feet of workers).
As the industry evolved, the distillation of fatwood shifted to the processing of pine gum (oleoresin) extracted from the living pine tree.
Around 1850, the production of gum turpentine peaked in North Carolina and began to spread southward through the longleaf pine belt as northerly forest were exhausted.

Baboon finds inspiration in a variety of influences, including art rock and experimentalism as well as the genres above, and a couple of singles and compilation appearances into its career, the band has polished its musical compound to a glimmering sheen.
The scorching 100 seconds of the opening track ("Master Salvatore") are worth the price of admission alone, and the tinny vocals on the verses hop around the spare drumbeat backdrop like Adam and The Ants after a massive jumpstart.
Rather than pledging its allegiance to any single concept, Baboon focuses each song on a different idea; on Face Down In Turpentine the group explores ugly love catastrophes ("Why'd You Say Die?"), long, angry rants ("Sucker, "Tool"), and noisy, screeching experimentation ("Naked In The Mall/California Dreaming").

You wouldn't necessarily expect a self-professed "noise rock" band called Baboon (kindred spirits with such infamous Texas rock acts as Brutal Juice and The Toadies) to release an album entitled Something Good Is Going To Happen To You and mean it.
Nor would you expect such an optimistic attitude from a band that has had its share of turmoil: a bad deal with the New York label Wind-Up, a long withheld CD, personnel changes, etc. In fact, Something Good Is Going To Happen To You is the band's first full-length studio CD in five years.
And something good is happening, the CD is working it's way into rotation in several markets and fans are starting to stand up and shake the turpentine off...GO BOON!
