Face To Face was one of those bands, though when I first heard of them, I wondered how they were getting away with using the name without getting sued by the '80s one hit wonders (anybody remember "10-9-8"?).
It wasn't as syrupy as some of the bands that were playing circuit at the time -- you know, the ones that got HUGE later in the '90s (Green Day, I'm looking at you…), it was more raw and energetic.
It quickly becomes obvious that all of these bands became ingredients in Face To Face's sonic stew, and that the reason I liked them so much to start with is that they were synthesizing a perfect blend of bands that I already loved.

I mean, I know Face to Face are a punk band, but solely because of their other works, the fact that they tour with punk bands and throw free shows, etc etc. If I were to judge them only on this album, I would say they were some kind of bad Third Eye Blind clone.
The Face to Face vocals are usually pretty distinctive, in that they're a gruff near-scream, but here they seem far too polished.
Other Face to Face albums are of a higher quality than this one, so I would say avoid it unless you're already a serious Face to Face fan.

Standards and Practices is like Face to Face's entire career: spotty.
It's a bad idea to cover bands whose charisma carried the tunes more than the actual melody/structure of the songs, it's even worse to have a singer as straight-man-sounding as Trevor Keith trying to convey the sort of enigma (Morrissey) and energy (Ian MacKaye) that he just doesn't have.
Face to Face is slowly changing their trademark from being the purveyors of fine sing-alongs to "the guys who just don't realize they're a punk band and nothing else."
