The emphasis on the faculty’s past is not surprising given the intense passion shown by students and faculty alike toward the faculty’s numerous traditions.
Faculty members, building upon their predecessors’ predilection to maintain outside consulting work, were actively engaging in industry- and government-sponsored research that tended to be practical as well as scholastically relevant.
The areas that FASE faculty members did show their mettle was in the area of recruiting external monies to further their research, which in turn aided FASE in providing comprehensive engineering education to its students.

The nine faculty members appointed as Faculty Fellows have proven their sustaining value through the tenure process and are involved in new and exciting educational and research initiatives, often in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines.
Faculty Fellows receive a $2,000 discretionary stipend and may use "School of Engineering and Applied Science Faculty Fellow" as part of their title.

Five professors and from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering were awarded “Early Research Awards” by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation on November 7, 2006.
Professor Susan McCahan, of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and also Chair, First Year in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, will be inducted as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) during its annual meeting in San Francisco on February 17, 2007.

Applied Science One is a first year program that can be pursued in conjunction with this degree or as a precursor to a major in another school in the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
Students in the Faculty of Applied Sciences may apply for admission to either the General Applied Sciences option or the Double Minor Option at any time.

Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences voted today to recommend to the Harvard Corporation that DEAS change its name to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS).
The change in name was recommended by the DEAS Visiting Committee and several other advisory groups, and warmly endorsed by the Corporation.
The Harvard Gazette reports on Daniel Jacob, a professor of atmospheric chemistry and environmental engineering, who created a computer model for estimating the environmental impact of dust from Asia.
