| | IGN: Fade to Black Review |
 | | Fade to Black, easily the best hip-hop documentary since The Show and one of the great concert films of all time, closes the book on a decade-long career, and proves that his fire is still burning, even on the eve of his retirement. |
 | | The film, which captures his farewell concert at Madison Square Garden in November of 2003, provides a great moment of reflection for rap fans who frequently seem to forget that artists seldom last longer than a hot single or two, much less a full-length album. |
 | | Fade to Black is a greatest-hits package, a precedent-setting concert doc and eulogy for a retiring artist all in one, but the film's one great accomplishment is that it makes you feel like even with Jay supposedly gone, the songs live on long after he's left the stage. |
