The death of Fadhili Williams Mdawida on February 11 robbed East Africa of one of the few surviving "second-generation" musicians who put the region on the world map by composing and performing in Kiswahili.
Fadhili, who was 62, was buried last Wednesday at Nairobi's Kariokor Muslim Cemetery in a funeral ceremony attended by musicians, producers and journalists.
Fadhili was born to Halima Wughanga and Ramadhan Mwamburi on November 11, 1938, in Mombasa.

Kidjo's tour can be considered some kind of payback for Kenya and East Africa in general for what the region has done for her career.
The late Kenyan musician is credited with having composed the song which has been performed by numerous musicians and bands across the world but Tanzanian national the late Grand Charo who once played in Williams' band also claimed it as his own.
Kidjo's career therefore has a striking resemblance to that South Africa's Miriam Makeba, who also found international fame through a version of Malaika, recorded in the US where she was living in exile in the 1950s to escape apartheid rule.
