Faifley's first industries were attracted to the area by the opportunity to harness the water-power provided by the Loch Humphrey Burn and the Cochno Burn.
Faifley Mill was eventually converted to a furniture factory by Glasgow manufacturer Louis Abraham, and became known as the "Jew's Mill".
In 1958 a deputation from the Faifley Tenants Association lobbied the Scottish Office in Edinburgh complaining of the poor housing conditions and disparity in rents between Council and SSHA houses.

Scottish Homes 1100 tenants in the Faifley and Veitches Court area are to be offered the chance to transfer to the new Knowes Housing Association.
A detailed examination of the proposals from the two competing landlords, Faifley and Knowes Housing Associations, showed both were financially sound and capable of offering a good level of service to tenants.
Scottish Homes is tranferring all its rented houses throughout the country to other landlords in a move designed to pave the way for new investment in improvements to the houses, more certainty about future rent levels, and the chance for a bigger say for tenants in the future running of their homes.

Some 1100 Scottish Homes tenants in Faifley are being offered the chance of an £8.5 million package of improvements and repairs to their homes over the next few years.
Tenants have four weeks in which to return their ballot paper to the independent Electoral Reform Society.
The move, which would secure continued service from a local office and is supported by the existing housing management staff in Faifley, would mean a bigger say for tenants in the way their houses are run in the future, in addition to limiting future rent increases.

In his "Place Names of Dumbartonshire", John Irving places Faifley under the strange form of "Fimbealach", quoting a 1381 spelling of "Fymbalac".
Certain it is, nevertheless, that it is an old name, though today it is used almost exclusively to refer to the large post-second world war housing scheme built to the north east of Duntocher village, and forming a northern suburb of Clydebank.
A number of ferries crossed to the south bank of the Clyde from places in the Parish of Old Kilpatrick.

 TheClydebankStory: Old Faifley
Long before the creation of the vast housing scheme of the name, Faifley was a village on the Field Road (later Cochno Road) to the north of Hardgate.
The Faifley Mill on the Field Road, alongside the cottages, was purchased in 1811 by the cotton magnate William Dunn from the Faifley Spinning Co. He converted it to a cotton mill.
In the early 1900s the mill building was used for the manufacture of furniture and from 1976 until its demolition in the early 1990s it was a bakery.
