Fairchild Air Force Base is located 12 miles west of the city of Spokane, Washington adjacent to US Highway 2 and 3 miles north of Interstate 90.
Fairchild originated as the Spokane Army Air Depot in 1942 and was turned over to the United States Air Force (Strategic Air Command) in 1947.
On July 1, 1994, the 92nd Bomb Wing was redesignated the 92nd Air Refueling Wing, and Fairchild AFB was transferred from Air Combat Command (ACC) to Air Mobility Command (AMC), in a ceremony marking the creation of the largest air refueling wing in the Air Force.

WASHINGTON -- The law enforcement airman who stopped a former airman from killing additional innocent bystanders at Fairchild AFB, Wash., last year has won the Air Force's highest security police (SPS) award.
Brown, who has been in law enforcement and the Air Force about six years, said in a telephone interview that he is very proud of the award and what it represents, despite the tragedy that merited his winning it.

 History of Larson Air Force Base
On 1 April 1952, Larson AFB was placed under the Tactical Air Command and the 62d Troop Carrier Wing moved from McChord AFB, Washington to assume command.
Larson AFB is geographically located five miles northwest of the city of Moses Lake, Washington, fourteen miles southwest of Ephrata, Washington, and seventeen miles south of Soap Lake, Washington.
Now that it is to be closed, Larson AFB as a military installation will soon be forgotton, but its accomplishments and contributions are recorded in the historical archives of the Air Force and will long be remembered.

Deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam, from January to April of 1956.
On September 4, 1956, the wing moved to Westover AFB, Massachusetts, and was redesignated the 99th Bombardment Wing, Heavy on October 1st.
Moved to Nellis AFB and redesignated the 99th Wing on June 15, 1993.
