In October of 2003, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Fairfax County Forest Pest Section became aware of the infestation and immediately removed the trees.
In the spring of 2004, 238 ash trees within a one-half mile area of the suspected infestation site were removed and incinerated.
