Fairfield, at 873 m (2,863 ft), is the 13th highest mountain in the Lake District, according to Wainwright 's list.

Fairfield may also be cimbed from the west, via Grisedale Tarn at the head of Grisdedale.

For several years, visiting the Lake district was tinged with a poignant sadness and a pained attempt to recapture this moment, when my Dad was still alive.

Fairfield itself, not far short of Munro height at 2863 ft, stands at the northern apex of a classic horseshoe ridge, both limbs of which descend southwards towards the town of Ambleside at the head of Lake Windermere.

This walk is a nice warm up to a spell of fell walking in the Lake District as it involves a steady climb from Mill Bridge on the A591 to Grisedale Tarn and then a steep push up to the summit of Fairfield.
I was thrilled as we arrived at the Lakes for two reasons, one of them obviously being the drinking sessions with all my friends prior to my wedding in two weeks time.
I was finding form as we reached the top of Fairfield to enjoy the tremendous views from its summit as you can see such a lot from Morecambe Bay and the Solway Firth to the west and numerous Lakeland peaks all around.

On the A592 a couple of miles out of Pooley Bridge, as you drive up a relatively steep hill and immediately on your left, as you go up over the brow will be the sign for Ullswater Marina along with the road.
Next comes Fairfield and which ever you want, come off the A592 onto what is a single track road leading down to the Marina of your choice.
Both Fairfield and the Ullswater Marina's sport a flat silt bottom with the exception of moorings dotted about causing hollows in the lakebed.
