Fairview served the needs of the mines on War Eagle Mountain including the Orofino, Mahogany, Poorman, Golden Chariot and Ida Elmore.
This is a miner's union cemetery that was started in 1873 and was used until 1886.

The first person interred in Fairview Cemetery was Harriet D. Morrison, who died in 1882 at the age of 65.
Fairview Cemetery obtained a Warranty Deed on April 20, 1925 for the exchange of Lot 4, Section 3, Block 16 and One Dollar to be paid by the City of Denison for the purpose of Sepulture only.
It is recorded in the files of Fairview Cemetery that the monument was ceeded into perpetual care in 1923, with the fees for such being paid for by one Elizabeth Alexander, a relative of Horace Alexander.

Hazel McIntire and the Johnstons believe the cemetery was created to provide local rural families a less taxing alternative to transporting their departed all the way to Indiana for burial.
Based on a comparison of cemetery data compiled by the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County and a death register maintained by the Indiana County veterans' affairs office, Dougan believes, "Five to seven veterans' graves may not be marked" at Fairview.

One of Fairview's historic markers is the common grave and memorial monument for Confederate soldiers erected in 1881.
Fairview was placed on the Virginia Landmarks Register on September 4, 2006, and was entered on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, on January 11, 2006.

 Fairview Cemetery, Garden County Nebraska
Fairview Cemetery was established in 1913 on the southeast corner of S10, T17, R41 on land donated for that purpose by E.M. Collins.
Also in 1913, a frame building was built on land adjacent to the cemetery which served as a community gathering place hosting church services and Sunday school, dances and entertainment, as well as the meetings of the local Woodmen of the World lodge.
It was replaced at the cemetery by a sod house which continued to be used as church and Sunday School - a rare example of a sod structure succeding a frame building.

There are only 26 headstones in the Cemetery, however there are several spaces the might have had people buried there.
I looks like that the farm on the west side of the cemetery has encroached on the boundary, however the only way to make certain is to excavate that side.

The cemetery is about 3mi S and 3mi W of Oral, on a uninproved gravel road, which is about 2 and a quarter miles.
It is accepting burials, it is in as good a condition as any rural cemetery in Western SD.
