FAIRVIEW township was established under authority of legislative enactment in March, 1846.
The place of election for the new township was fixed at the house of William McCafferty in the village of Fairview, the voters of the old township of Donegal to meet at the house of Dennis O'Donnell, Sr.
Situated in the southwest quarter of Fairview township, it was the center of the celebrated oil district; for round it clustered the oil towns of Angelica, Karns City, Iron City, Modoc, Greece City, Troutman, Millerstown, Fairview and Petrolia.

 Township Officials’ Pay
The township clerk, under the direction of the township trustees, shall be the custodian of the building, and the use thereof may be permitted by the township trustees to citizens of the township for any lawful purpose.
Townships cannot use fire funds for cemetery purposes, or owned cemetery funds for non-owned cemetery purposes, etc. Proposed township budgets are posted in the public area of the Jones County Courthouse at least ten days prior to a township budget hearing.
A township officer shall be a resident of the township, and may be a resident of a city within the respective township (this previously only applied to township clerks).

Some of them came from the Township of Monaghan, in the County of Ulster, and for that reason the name of Monaghan was given to this Township which was laid out by authority of the court at Lancaster four years before York County was organized.

Monday night supervisors learned that $110,000 grant won’t be nearly enough to pay for the work they had planned.
Following the meeting, Supervisor Robert Orloski said the only way the township would be able to pave both roads as planned would be to take money from the general fund earmarked for other road repairs.
The road master pointed out the township has 29 miles of roads.
