  REAL FAIRYTALES (ASAP) - www.ezboard.com
That fairytales often shape women to be in the image of perfection.
Fairytales aren’t fl with obscure evil, nor are they white with purity and innocence.
Different people have different perception of fairytales and therefore have varied opinions over whether or not their effects are good or evil.

 The Truth About Fairytales
Fairytales of one sort or another have been with us since the very beginnings of humanity.
But even beyond all of this, what is most important in a fairytale, what in fact defines it as a fairytale as opposed to many other types of fantasy, is the surprise happy ending, the eucatastrophe to use Tolkien's word for it.
Fairytales are delightfully unrealistic in small things: animals talk, witches live in cottages in the forest, frogs and castles and even people may at any moment prove to be enchanted.

 Children write fairytales
Fairytales could almost be the only component of literary tradition which is accessible and well-known to children today.
Have fairytales told or read out in your class; ask the children to choose a fairytale that is as little known as possible and that is nice but not too long.
And if there are children from foreign countries in your class, they can - if they like - write out a fairytale they have been told: one which they remember or one that someone in the family still knows. In this way these children have the opportunity to bring elements of their own tradition into school.

The Shamanic Struggle Against Evil in Fairytales
Approached with an open mind, we can see that the wisdom that comes from Vasilisa's doll is actually imparted from the ancestor who gave it to her, and that when advice from animals is taken seriously, those who listen are always victorious against their evil opponents.
Other fairytales allude to more advanced shamanic methods, such as the woodcutter's ability to outwit the devil by taking on various animal forms and the story of the young man in "The Black Magician Czar" who, when transformed, can "run all over the earth" like a shaman on a journey (280).
Yet like the victor of so many fairytales, if we can learn to have faith in the higher purpose behind our natural wisdom, there will usually be a happy conclusion to the story.

 Walt Disney and Fairytales
When fairytale themes were used by other directors, it was usually done as satire - not only of the fairytales themselves but of Disneyesque interpretation of them.
The Disney heroines were not the preteens of traditional fairytales but young women who were both beautiful and contained a muted sexuality; this would get the Disney company in trouble in the feminist era, but it also created an idealized version of women that was unlike any depiction in any other type of film.
The use of fairytale plots and motifs made it possible for Disney to continue working with animal characters, which he possibly felt were essential for animated films.

The Role of Women in Fairytales
This is the view Fairytales give the reader and it is evident that childhood tales help to shape the listener or reader.
Children’s perceptions of Fairytales can go a long way towards shaping their social interactions; you can’t deny that the things they hear and read influence their views, visions of the future and reality.
Fairytales have been passed down through the ages, originating from the old oral Folk tales.

Aims: The purpose of this course is to explore myth, fairytales, and folklore as manifestations and articulations of the cultures out of which they arise.
We will consider the language and conceptual structures of these cultural expressions in terms of the ways that the human imagination configures meaning and that “stories” articulate and reshape cultural beliefs, norms, and expectations.
In addition to comparative analysis of different traditions and cultures, we will explore the relations among the forms of myth, fairytales, and folklore.

Waterloo Records - Jack Johnson (00's) : Brushfire Fairytales
Surfer-turned-rocker Jack Johnson has composed songs for G. Love and Special Sauce, and is signed to Ben Harper's manager's record label, so it's no surprise that his debut turns out to be the kind of laid-back acoustic funk beloved of fans of both those outfits.
What is surprising, however, is the unpretentious way these songs are presented--BRUSHFIRE FAIRYTALES is packed with bare-bones arrangements that highlight Johnson's catchy way with a lyric, so that when something unusual happens, such as the steel drums that dimly inhabit the background of "Flake," it's almost shocking.
BRUSHFIRE FAIRYTALES displays the kind of insouciance born of innocence, almost as if no-one involved cared if the album sold ten copies or ten million--and of course that's the attraction.

 eclecticism: Dark Fairytales
All of the work revolves around the title's theme, "Dark Fairytales." The artists were asked to work with existing fairytales — either the "classics" (such as the Grimm Brothers, or Hans Christian Andersen's stories) — or stories from myths and legends around the world.
I have read several sources which say the fairy tales we have in the US have been greatly bowdlerized, and, in the original, were thinly disguised tales of sex and violence.
Part of what the original fairytales were supposed to do was instill the moral lessons not just through the storyline, but through scaring the kids — not enough to traumatize them for life, but enough to let the story sink in and make them think about the lesson it was imparting.

InternetEd Reviews: Jack Johnson- Brushfire Fairytales   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
It’s not often that a musician who bases their material on acoustic folk and bluesy soul finds their way to the ears of the trend-hopping mainstream, but this is just what the abovementioned artist has done.
Overall, though, Brushfire Fairytales is closer to a Ben Harper recording in that it’s mostly built on a framework of acoustic blues, despite Jack Johnson’s funky vocal meanderings and somewhat folkish storytelling style.
On the whole, this is a good album by a talented performer that, should he continue to develop his lyrical and musical style, may eventually be deemed a genuine musical legend.
