  Outpost Gallifrey: Reviews
As the beginning of the final McGann season, ‘Faith Stealer’ has a lot to do- convince those who were not sure of the last Season that this one would be better, slowly set up a way for the TARDIS crew to escape, and provide a decent story at the same time.
The setting for 'Faith Stealer' is the Multihaven, "an entire city set up as a religious forum", in which disparate faiths come together in harmony whilst simultaneously competing for worshippers presumably intended to be a microcosm of the increasingly secular United Kingdom.
Faith Stealer should terrify me then, and to be fair the author does make good use of such material as the faithful ‘seeing the light’ and being literally ‘converted’, but the play never really rises beyond traditional Doctor Who storytelling to really tackle the issue of religion.

The religions portrayed in Faith Stealer are imaginative, including the religion of the Bakoans, who worship a never-ending hymn, and the Church of Serendipity, who worship accidents (introducing welcome moments of comedy into the story).
The ending, which I shan't reveal here, is a bit of a cop-out, but along the way "Faith Stealer" does a decent job of mixing satire with drama and incident, and deserves considerable recognition for its imaginative premise.
Faith Stealer is one of the 'Divergent Universe' story arc.

Faith Stealer was anything but this with a good degree of drama and then some funny moments inserted in between.
The music is also a winning element to Faith Stealer with just the right amount religious emphasis in the parts where it's needed (indeed in some cases you can almost see the shaft of light shining down from heaven!) but also giving a slight sense of 5th/6th Doctor era style that's not entirely unwelcome.
With a bit of luck the releases will all be to the superior standard of Faith Stealer and we can once again look forwards to a winning run of stories for this outgoing "current" incumbent of the role.

Faith Stealer is an enjoyable and entertaining tale, that opens the new season of adventures for the Eighth Doctor, Charley and C'rizz.
Certainly it is an improvement on previous tales, dealing as it does (albeit in a lighthearted way) with religion; the story also serves as a reintroduction to the three regulars and as such C'rizz actually benefits from some character development, with nods to his past hinted at throughout.
