Cities such as, Tehran, Esfahan, Hamadan, Ardebil, Shiraz, Kermanshah, Ahwaz, Falavarjan, Oroomiah (former Rezai-e) and Yazd were widely affected by these unrests.
The most violent clashes have been reported from Esfahan where the crowd attacked public buildings, banks, Islamist centers and patrol cars in retaliation to the brutal attack of militiamen which were sent to stop their public peaceful demonstrations.

The Mojahedin Command Headquarters inside Iran reported that in the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21 to May 21, 1998), the number of protest actions in different Iranian cities increased at least three-fold relative to the same period last year.
Some 50 different acts of protests occurred in Tehran and many other cities, including Isfahan, Najafabad, Yazd, Kashan, Falavarjan, (central Iran), Zanjan, Qazvin, Ilam (west), Tabriz, Oroumieh, Meshkin-Shahr (northwest), Bandar-Anzali, Ramsar, Rasht, Behshahr (north), Mashhad, Tabas, (east) Dezful, Bushehr, Doroud (southwest), Yassouj and Bandar Abbas (southern Iran).
The uprising by 10,000 people in southwest Tehran on May 4 and the demonstration by several thousand people in Kermanshah on May 15 displayed the Iranian people's utter rejection and hatred of the ruling theocracy.
