A Community Information Fair was held on August 21 and 22, 2001, at the Fallon Convention and Tourism Authority, in Fallon, Nevada, to provide an opportunity for community members to discuss health and site-related concerns with ATSDR staff as well as other state and federal agencies involved with the Fallon childhood leukemia investigation.
Several members of the community in the vicinity of NAS Fallon have expressed the concern that fuel jettisoned from Naval aircraft might be a potential cause of illnesses in the community.
The potential exposure by members of the Fallon community to jet fuel and emission byproducts is also not expected to be sufficient to result in non-cancer public health effects.

Hundreds of cancer clusters have been investigated and over 100 studied throughout the U. With the inclusion of a case of "Acute Myelogenous Leukemia" (AML), the total number of childhood leukemia cases investigated in Fallon was 16.

Since formally relocating to NAS Fallon, Nevada in 1996, it now comes under the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, which combined three separate commands: The Naval Strike Warfare Center ("Strike U"), the Carrier Airborne Early Warning Weapons School ("Top Dome"), and the Navy Fighter Weapons School ("Top Gun").
The third element earning its place in common household vocabulary was the location of the air station itself.

This article was prompted by a recent cluster of leukemia cases occurring near the naval air station in Fallon (NAS Fallon), Churchill County, a sparsely populated area in western Nevada.
All active naval air stations and Air Force bases in U.S. counties covered by SEER and CCR were identified using publicly available data provided by the U.S. Navy and Air Force (U.S. Air Force 2003; U.S. Navy 2003).
Counties with facilities where the type of aircraft, or volume of air traffic, were substantially different than NAS Fallon were excluded from the analysis.
