Fallout (computer game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The game is sometimes considered to be an unofficial sequel to Wasteland, but it could not use that title as Electronic Arts held the rights to it, and, except for minor references, the games are set in separate universes.
The protagonist of Fallout is an inhabitant of one of the government-contracted fallout shelters known as Vaults.
Fallout's menu interfaces are designed to resemble advertisements and toys of the same period; For example, the characters sheet cards and perks available, look like those of the board game Monopoly.

Fallout is a superb riff on this theme, letting you play the role of the hero as you venture across a nuked United States on a quest to help your imperiled community of survivors.
Fallout 1 is a shorter game but in many ways is more elegant; if you play it conscientiously you'll have a feeling of satisfaction at the end for having seen and done most of it.
The first game does have a timer for the completion of the main task, but that can be extended during the game, and in fact the game goes on (sans timer) once that task is completed.

Fallout was arguably the game that played a major part in resurrecting the PC RPG genre, which was in a big slump at the time of Fallout's release in the latter part of 1997.
As the game begins, the large underground vault where several generations of your family and many others have sheltered from the radiation and the harsh world outside is in crisis.
Fallout pioneered (as far as I know) the concept of the 'targeted' shot, whereby spending an extra AP on a shot or melee strike gives you the opportunity to go for a specific part of the critter's body, like the eyes, or the left leg.

This disease was caused mainly by the wretched addictiveness of Fallout 2, an RPG of some repute that has captured me within it's heavy embrace for the lastÂ… in fact I have no idea how long I have been playing it.
Fallout 2 was released back in 1998, following the appearance of the original Fallout in 1997.

No Mutants Allowed :: View topic - Sawyer and Cain
Yes, in a computer game you have no DM to help you along, to adapt to your personality, to answer your questions, and of course it needs to be taken into account.
Cain was working on Fallout, he'd make it turn-based, he'd keep the same systems in place and he wouldn't be wanting to change as much as JE is, just for the sake of it.
Given that Fallout 3 is going to have both turn-based and real-time combat, I'd certainly prefer that it benefit from the constructive feedback of you and the other posters here who have concerns and ideas.

In Fallout 1's introduction, we see a news-reel on a B&W TV (in an interesting contradiction, some year-2077 Americans are smartly beginning to buy primitive, low-energy 1950s-style electronics that are also more resistant to ElectroMagneticPulse).
In the introduction, the game's authors recognize both the Marxist concept of the economic nature of warfare throughout history and the Maoist idea of where militarism and capitalism are leading humanity.
Pessimistically, the game's creators state that Vault City/Vault 8 was a group of normal humans unsubjected to any special tests, and yet the sad situation in VC was the result.

The ending sequence (though not the ending itself) in Fallout is absolutely magnificent, giving you an account of what you have done and what the ramifications are.
Towards the middle of the game, however, he becomes a bloody neusance (constantly shooting you in the back etc.) and not much help, and in about two thirds of the game the only justification to keeping him around is as a human baggage (or cannon fodder).
This basically makes the actual ending of the game very unsatisfying, at least for me. I feel the same way towards how the designers chose to end the game (won't spoil it for those who haven't played it yet though).

Overwhelming: The game is buggy, I've fallen through floors, been stuck waist deep in floors, and have been frozen in battle from surprise attacks (especially when I'm close, too close, to the target).
For those of you who are familiar with the game, and understand what I am talking about, but who also can't stop playing the game...there is a 7 and 1/2 minute speedrun of Morrowind on CNET's Gamespot, while the resolution leaves something to be desired, its a hoot to watch.
The game is very complicated...as I said I can't remember what attributes I chose to help me level up faster, but they are complex and are character expensive.

 Fallout for Windows - MobyGames
"Fallout" is a RPG that utilizes a character development system called S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (the word is formed from the first letters of the game's most important character attributes).
You can specialize in various types of weapons, become proficient in conversations with people, etc. The game world offers a non-linear exploration: you can either follow the main story or perform one of the many sub-quests, visiting the game's locations in your preferred order.
However, when Steve Jackson Games (owners of G.U.R.P.S. license) pressured the development team to cut down on violence, a decision was made to switch to S.P.E.C.I.A.L., home-brewn rules-light GURPS clone, and abandon G.U.R.P.S. altogether.

Well - I game a lot, and it is both multiplayer and single player although with a clear weight in multi over the latter years.
I also, thusly, find games a good way to leave tension and stress, not that I want to get rid of my stress cause I feed of it when running projects, but still - it is good to get ones mind of things and games do this brilliantly.

 Fallout 2 Walkthrough
Fallout 2 is cool because it's a nonlinear, nonclassbased kickass postnuclear computer roleplaying game with a high replayabillity value.
However, since ST can be increased by 6 points during the game (perk +1, surgery +1, armour +4), I wouldn't recommend going any higher than that; even if you go for the full 10 it will mostly be noticeable in the beginning stages of the game (and a waste towards the end).
In this game items on the ground or in corpses do not decay, so you can return and pick them up later on unless they're on a map you can't return to (which will, eventually, be true for all of Arroyo and the Temple of Trials).

Computer Game Addiction - GameBanshee Forums
This article seems to me to completely overdramatize the issue, by saying that there is something pyschologically wrong with people who enjoy these games.
Essentially what I'm asking here is do you think computer games can be classed on a similar level to drugs, as the above article suggests, and is the social abnormality discussed any different from a bunch of yobs getting pissed and smashing a few shop windows (although a little quieter).
But, like AR, I'm on the computer a lot in the day as well (not including computer courses I'm taking), but all of it is work related, or something along those lines.
